imagine if she’d slept with Bobby around the same time (kind of like the time they slept together while she was staying in the hotel when they were first separated) and it was unclear who the father was..

(of course, all mystery would have evaporated the instant the baby was born: did it have a mustache or a giant helmet of black hair?)

Lol...All jokes aside, no way would they turn the princess of Dallas into a woman who doesn't know who the father is.

Did Jock take the oil business away from Digger?

I am trying to piece together the events of "Dallas: The Early Years" and "Digger's Daughter"

So when Jock, Digger and Jason were partners, Digger and Jason lost their claims on Ewing 1-5 from drinking and gambling.
Ewing 6 - Jock claimed sole ownership and was going to give Digger (and Jason?) their share, because
he didn't want them to lose it and be stuck with unknown associates.
So Digger was mad, but when he calmed down, he wouldn't accept Jock's offer, or did Jock offer it?
Even DEY wasn't clear, at least not to me.
What about later ventures?
Was Digger involved with any of those?

Wasn't there something like Jock had to keep the papers of ownership because Digger was drunk and couldn't be trusted with them? Or something about signing the papers?

I’ve never been a big fan of paternity storylines in general but this one could’ve been interesting. Undoubtedly J.R. would’ve enlisted Katherine to go work at the lab and fix the results in Mark’s favor.

That was the deed to the strike if I remember rightly.

Jock registered it solely in his name to prevent Digger and the others from gambling it away.

When Digger eventually saw the deed when he was sober he went ballistic, believing that Jock was trying to cheat him out of his rightful share.

I know Dandy was not a popular character, but Bert Remsen is a skilled actor who has appeared in many films and tv shows.
I could see him as Amos Krebbs, if that role had ever been more long-term,
or as Digger Barnes.
I thought it was interesting, at least, to have a story where Cliff was in a similar position to Jock,
as far as protecting a friend from himself.
In later years, Cliff seemed to become a better person again, but I suppose it wasn't enough story for the show

I'm rewatching the episodes that's focusing around Cliff winning the bid for the offshore oil leases.

It's kinda sad seeing the beginning of the end to the power dynamic of Cliff, Pam, Mark and Afton. Like someone said, that was a good group that should have remained longer. It's pretty much ending because of the "looney" Barnes duo of Cliff and Pam, who can't shake their obsession with the Ewing's.

@Jock Ewing Fan your idea is exactly what happened in J.R. Returns.

Cliff owned Ewing Oil because he got it from J.R. in the last season. In J.R. Returns, Cliff sold Ewing Oil to Bobby.

J.R. addressed the Westar board (think of this in J.R.'s voice as he relishes his victory):

"Westar boardmembers, you have a problem. Not only does Ewing Oil still exist, there's a Ewing running it. And I have enough stock and proxies to make your lives miserable. . . That is, unless you make me chairman of Westar."

It's Cliff's obsession with the Ewings that keeps him in the oil business, destined to fail.

@Billy Wall how did you enjoy Cliff's reaction when he opened his apartment door and Mark was on the other side? Ken Kercheval's acting was spot on. Joy, amazement, disbelief. It was great!

Even before that scene, you are coming up on the episodes where Ken Kercheval gets some meaty plot lines and he really shines as an actor.

When the offshore oil leases are going bad, Cliff is in his kitchen. He gets more and more wound up until he is almost coming apart at the seams. He becomes more physically animated until he slams the refrigerator door out of frustration.

Ken Kercheval does an incredible job of showing the stress build up until it's unbearable.

Very fine acting job.

It was the outcome in "JR Returns" indeed. Would have been interesting to see it in the original series.

I think "JR Returns" was the last time Dallas was the show that I remember as "good" Dallas

I know Pam was recently called a nitwit, but she can't hold a candle to Katherine. Doing a rewatch as an adult makes me see things that I didn't even bat an eye before. Katherine actually sleeps with JR multiple times just to get Bobby? There's obsession, but this takes the cake. Lol
