Lucy should have run a secret phone sex business from Southfork

That would have been a fun subplot. For example

Phone rings
Ellie: “Hello.” Pause. “WHAT??”
Lucy, rushing over: “Grandma , it’s for me.“ Then she takes the phone and waves Ellie off, “Hearing you talk like that makes me so hot. Tell me what you what to do to me.”
Ellie: “How straaange!”

And later, JR could have used it to make fun of her. “How‘s that phone sex business you’re running?”

I can hear Lucy saying to the caller: "Call me Pamela! (and also Sue Ellen and Afton)" And using those terrible outfits from her model phase to turn clients on and selling tapes with her act!

Hey, at least you are trying to write for her, which is more than can be said about 'Uncle Lenny' . They should have kept her as the somewhat cunning bad girl, rather than the bubble headed girl with awful luck in choosing men. Charlene could have done more with the character, I do believe.

As some may know, I want she and Afton to take over The Oil Barons' Club circa 1989.

Dang..you mean we might have actually seen Lucy doing something in the latter half of season 12?? For the life of me, I'm having trouble remembering what exactly her character did that season after the Casey Denault story-line. I feel like we saw more of her in season 13, but it was mostly wasted on Cally and the art gallery stuff. :re:

I'm not sure if you're 100% for real, but Afton was back around that time, and really, I kinda wish she had stayed, at least a little longer.

This topic reminds me of that time when Paige put Linda´s number in a date ad to get revenge on her. Probably the cruelest thing she did on the show! Poor poor Linda! Imagine Lucy putting Sue Ellen´s name and Southfork number in one of those ads? Teresa would spend the day passing the phone to her and rolling her eyes...

Regarding Lucy in season 13, I assume the budget was so tight that there was no money for a new love interest for her. Alex Barton was perhaps the only real possibility, but did anyone really want to see Lucy unlucky in love yet again? Personally, I would have liked it if Lucy had run into Muriel (perhaps as a recast). Seeing Muriel married with children might have sparked envy in Lucy—she might even have developed a crush on Muriel’s husband—only to discover that he was beating his wife, prompting her to help Muriel and the children escape the abusive relationship.

What interests me is how Charlene Tilton was paid for season 13. She appeared in 19 of the 27 episodes; was she paid only for those 19 episodes, or for every episode of the season? Furthermore, she often had only one or two scenes per episode. The other actors had to work hard for their money in season 13 and appeared frequently in each episode, so I wonder if Charlene Tilton was paid based on scenes or shooting days rather than for full episodes.

I'm watching those episodes now. Lucy is basically reduced to being Cally's sidekick.
Of all the things that made me furious about late seasons Dallas, how Lucy was treated made me the maddest. Why even bother to bring her back? As bad as the writing for her in the mid-seasons was, at least they gave her something to do. Lucy - as annoying as she was - was at least a real Ewing. Would rather have watched her that all those abominable new characters.

if she’s going to be in storylines with Cally, at least put her in a weird marriage with Japhet and/or Boaz!

I agree with you. What was the point of having her back for two seasons to practically do nothing? I have to make the assumption that there were originally bigger plans?? Or were we just supposed to be reminded of the classic years by her minimal appearances? They thought that would be something of an element to get us back there, like all the Sue Ellen flashbacks during the making of her movie. Flashbacks to when the show was still good. No, too much damage had been done by that point for any of those things to make that much of a difference.

I also wonder in a way if Charlene could have been asked back because someone higher up felt bad for the way she was treated when her contract wasn't renewed for season 9, but then I would probably have a hard time believing anyone was just being that 'nice'.

Lucy could be a good character at times. I liked the early, bratty, conniving, yet still vulnerable version we saw in those first couple of years..her scenes with Kit come to mind. You would have really believed she loved that man, and she truly seemed heartbroken. That was very good acting and writing.

Then, Lucy comes around a little bit again on my radar around the time her and Mickey became friends. We saw some of the old Lucy there. Acting tough and kinda snobby at first, and then opening up. Charlene could clearly act. I'm not sure why they didn't utilize her more, especially seasons 12 and 13..

I’m sure by that point, given the budgetary constraints, the actors were only being paid for the episodes in which they appeared.

I thought her return was pointless. And while she was never one of my favorites, I would have preferred to see more of her and less of Michelle Stevens and Barbara Stock and some of the other duds they brought in later.
