Why are you explaining woke to me? I used it correctly. You don't think that removing white responsibility for slavery and such from text books is anti woke? You don't think that filling public schools and government institutions with Christianity instead of acknowleding different religions is anti woke?
You seem to be conflating anti-woke ideology with far-right ideology. From a leftist's perspective, being anti-woke isn't the same as being a Christian nationalist.

I believe in teaching about the white slave owners of the time, but the woke version is that all white people are inherently racist, fragile, and should have white guilt.

I don't consider religious indoctrination in schools and government (which I'm against) to be anti-woke. Being against woke-ideology isn't tied to any particular religion.

The people Trump is nominating for key positions believe slavery was good for black people because it got them out of a shit hole country. He's selecting key authors of Project 2025 to fulfill their Christian dreams of making everyone Christian. He's nominating a guy for Defense who believes DEI and especially women don't belong in the military.
Wake up.
Thanks for the condescending suggestion, but I don't need to "wake up." The far-right's ideology has always been abhorrent to me, and it's not like this is unexpected.

Of course, it's not as if Dem administrations haven't been filled with war mongers, Wall Street profiteers, and crony capitalist ghouls looking to exploit vulnerable people.

It would be nice if you knew something.

Boris Johnson actually says here at ~01:40, that "let's face it, we're waging a proxy war..." verbatim:

Boris Johnson ADMITS Ukraine Is A Proxy War!

Thanks for shopping K-Mart.
:gp:

You're right Boris Johnson is a discredited moron. And he's dumb enough to now say the quiet part out loud.

The interview has been ignored because it's too revealing.
Yes, it's precisely the same reason the American political establishment hates Trump. It's not that he isn't sufficiently evil, it's that he says the quiet part out loud.

Ending wars typically involves negotiations and concessions, but some people don't want that. Personally, I'd prefer that to indefinite billion-dollar weapons deals and carnage.

Of course, the West doesn't care about defending Ukrainian lives. They provoked Putin and squashed a peace deal because endless war is the goal. It's just too profitable.

Speaking of condescending...you felt the need to say I'm conflating and you had to explain woke to me even though there are a variety of definitions. Usually protecting marginalized or being politically correct is what the right is against.

The right wingers use the term woke when talking about Christianity being removed from public schools and DEI in the military etc,. So maybe correct their use of the term if you don't like mine.

Since when is referencing General Custer specifically, etc in text books being woke? No text book says all white people or even generalized white people. You're following the right wing fear mongering mantra.

At least I didn't tell you to "wake up" or call you an "apologist" for a corrupt regime. IMO, that's much more condescending than differing with you on the definition of a word.

Woke was coined (or at least popularized) by those who consider themselves on the left. Thus, I'm going by their application of the term.

Generally speaking, woke isn't about "protecting the marginalized." If anything, it weaponizes their identity and uses it uses it as a shield against all forms of criticism.

Right wing Christian evangelicals were against Christianity being removed from schools well before the term "woke" was common place.

As for DEI policies, I consider them to be woke if they place identity over merit. There's certainly no place for discrimination in any job, but qualifications must come first.

I wasn't aware they took General Custer out of text books...

I'm not following anybody's mantra. It doesn't have to be in a text book for teachers (or woke people in general) to instill such generalizations in children.

Last I checked, Christianity isn't taught in any public school textbook either. That hasn't stopped some teachers from promoting it.

Not true. Woke was first used by African Americans to mean having an awareness of social and political issues affecting African Americans. White right-wingers subsequently have tried to turn it into an insult. Another example of how some white people like to spoil things for black people.

The actress Kathy Burke understands what it means.

I'm aware of that, which is why I put "or at least popularized" in parenthesis. I'm talking specifically about how faux liberals use it today in order to virtue signal and weaponize identity. As I've pointed out before, criticizing the policies of a woman or a person of color will have the faux woke disingenuously labelling you a sexist and racist respectively.

That said, the right uses the woke grift to make corporate greed and imperialism palatable by encouraging women, black people, gays, and trans people to join their ranks.

The actress Kathy Burke understands what it means.

If she subscribes to modern woke ideology, she's definitely the latter. As are race baiters who make generalizations about one race "spoiling things" for another.

As usual, you deliberately misrepresent what has been said to fit your flawed arguments. Stick to watching your conspiracy theory Jimmy Dore videos which are about as honest as some of the guff you post on here.

Hmm, why does that sound so familiar? Of course, that's pure projection on your part.

This is laughable coming from someone who believes partisan cable news hacks are reliable sources.

Not to mention the fact that I've never relied solely on Jimmy Dore for my source of information. This ad hominem attack shows you have nothing substantive to add.

The wake up part of my post wasn't directed at you. It was directed at those who refuse to see what the evangelicals have in mind under the Trump administration. It only applies to you, if you refuse to see that.

The religious right expects Trump to curry favor for them since they feel they got him elected....and he's not even Christian. He wouldn't know a Bible passage from a Shakespeare quote.

Generally speaking, woke isn't about "protecting the marginalized." If anything, it weaponizes their identity and uses it uses it as a shield against all forms of criticism.
How do you propose that marginalized people are protected from being discriminated against?

Right wing Christian evangelicals were against Christianity being removed from schools well before the term "woke" was common place.
That's true but fortunately, that's the past. They just now feel emboldened to bring it back.
As for DEI policies, I consider them to be woke if they place identity over merit. There's certainly no place for discrimination in any job, but qualifications must come first.
The entire reason for DEI type rules and "quotas" for including racial, religious, gender, sexual minorities is because it's been the only way to ensure they're not refused employment or admission, etc. Otherwise an employer or whomever can just say, they weren't qualified and only hire people of his or her own race, etc.

How would you ensure people aren't discriminated against?

They want to and The Stop WOKE Act, also known as the Stop Wrongs to Our Kids and Employees Act and redubbed the Individual Freedom Act, originally passed by De Santis in Florida is the type of law that will be commonplace in Republican states/districts.

Nobody with a brain cell above the stem, believes that white people are the only racists. Every race has racists.

It just seems to be white people who feel the need right now to delete facts from the historical record because they find it uncomfortable.

Some people just can't get out of their binary bubble belief systems, believing it to be "wisdom" in doing so.

There is nothing "rightwing" about @Frank Under the Mistletoe 's perspective, and yet @Laurie! has admitted she "would be a rightwinger if" they were more feministic.

It's always fascinating to see how the most belligerent ideologues will label and project their own psychologies onto more layered thinkers, using the most vile straw-woman argumentation to do so.

You're just trying to "win" while he's trying to make cogent, lucid, balanced points.

I'm afraid there's not a simple answer to that question. On the one hand, being for equal opportunity is the obvious position to have if you're on the left. On the other hand, how do you enforce employers to adhere to it? Then there's the question of qualifications, strengths, abilities, etc., and the fact that some jobs are more demanding than others.

They want to and The Stop WOKE Act, also known as the Stop Wrongs to Our Kids and Employees Act and redubbed the Individual Freedom Act, originally passed by De Santis in Florida is the type of law that will be commonplace in Republican states/districts.

I'm not sure just how far The Stop WOKE Act goes, but I believe the horrors of slavery should be taught just like they've always been.

Some things are uncomfortable, but as long as white people aren't taught that they're inherently racist because there were white slave owners, it's necessary to know about it.

Actually, you're projecting the feministic onto me. What I said was, I'd be more conservative if they stayed out of people's abdomen and bedrooms. For example, I believe in work for welfare type programs rather than simply handouts if you're capable.

Do you have an example of how we've been taught that we're inherently racist as opposed to just teaching historical accuracy?
Surely people know the tutsi's were also black in Rwanda but still slaughtered by black people.
The Uyghurs in China are still Chinese. Do Chinese feel inherently racist?

The anti woke crowd is generally a bunch of white people who want to take back, white, male, masculine, Christian domination in society. They're feeling a bit uncomfortable that white people are rapidly becoming a minority. It's not about anything else.

In my experience, the "inherent racism of white people" typically comes from white liberals (particularly the well to do, "blue no matter who" variety.)

I've heard teachers on social media espouse this belief, but in fairness, I can't say how prevalent it is in education because social media can skew things.

Again, what you're describing is specific to anti-woke right wingers. Of course, they'd still be Christian nationalists, with or without woke ideology to rail against.

As an anti-woke leftist, all I ask for is historical accuracy and the ability to challenge another person's views without being labeled a sexist, a racist, or some type of phobe for it. Oh yeah, and don't mutilate children's bodies or stunt their growth. That's it. What consenting adults choose to do should be entirely their business as far as I'm concerned.

That is not how your phrased it the first time. Not even close.

I still say, you can't simply trust employers, school admissions staff, etc to. select based on merit. History proved they didn't do it and minorities were statistically misrepresented.

Here, I'm unaware of any programs that force employers to hire a certain number of women/minorities but there are incentives to do so (tax credits, etc).

Universities or colleges (unless private) are supposed to admit a certain number of First Nation students, other visual minorities though.
Oh yeah, and don't mutilate children's bodies or stunt their growth. That's it.
I don't believe in sex change therapy for minors either. I do sympathize with the very minimal number who do seem certain what their gender should be as opposed to just being tomboys, gay or whatever.

Although, you can't give the power to parents to allow their baby boys to be circumcised when the baby obviously can't understand the ramifications....and then say parents can't determine whether their child wants to be the opposite gender.

Republicans and Democrats (including Bernie Sanders) are predictably melting down over Trump's attempt to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine.

It seems they would rather see this proxy war last indefinitely because anything less would be bad for the military industrial complex.

Zelensky said he'd resign if Russia kept the peace, but the caveat is that Ukraine would get to join NATO. That's why it's a performative stunt, as he knows that's a non-starter.

I do believe Putin is a war criminal and an oligarch like Sanders claimed, but retaliating by engaging in an endless war only leads to dead citizens and soldiers. It's the military contractors who benefit from these wars, and the bought politicians happily do their bidding. GOP Senator Roger Wicker said "Putin is a war criminal and should be in jail for the rest of his life, if not executed." Okay, but if that standard was applied consistently, every US President this century would be strung up. Sadly, war criminals usually don't face justice, and negotiating with nefarious leaders is often necessary to achieve peace. Unless, of course, the goal is a proxy war with the intent of "crushing Russia/Putin."

It's all happening quicker than I thought....

Russia and China's plan to neuter the U.S. by installing a narcissistic, morally bankrupt, publicity whore who's alienating traditional allies, dismantling the intelligent people in the high ranks of military, CDC, etc. Semi -intelligent people are spinelessly turning a blind eye so they don't get primaried.....

All the while you just focus on the shiny, "woke" object and ignore it.

The self-proclaimed "religious" right pretends to love thy neighbour but seems completely fine with only helping Ukraine if they get something in return.

Ask yourself if it's okay with you, if your neighbour's house was under attack and they needed your help, you say you will but only if they give you their hot tub you've always wanted. If that's abhorrent on a small scale, how do you think it's acceptable on a much larger scale like Ukraine??? It's morally vile.

Then ask yourself, why would Russia, after losing so much with their illegal, immoral invasion of Ukraine, allow the U.S. to seize control of the earth minerals??? Give your effing, heads a shake.
