Just up to where JR has manipulated Cally into leaving Southfork but at the last minute his plot is undone when John Ross appeals to him to make her stay. JR is standing on the balcony and, in my mind, I flashed back to him standing there overlooking Kristin in the pool, the picture of evil.
It's an emotional scene underlying his love for his son, but the contrast is also an example of how he's become diminished in these final seasons

Even though he had kind of lost his Midas touch/mojo, however you want to put it, I still feel like he looked almost sinister on that balcony when the scenario you mentioned took place with Cally.

I don't know that I ever connected it with the scene of him standing, looking down at Kristin, but..he had some great moments up on that balcony. I'm thinking of once he finally learns of Peter and Sue Ellen as well. Nice observation.

Count me as someone who strongly disliked the last part of that thirteenth-season title track, where they extended it at the top to paper over poor execution of the visuals, and extended it again before Bel Geddes was shown.

I wonder if this cheapness/laziness was just the point the show had sunk to by then, or if part of this was mainly because Lesley Anne Down's contract put her in the intro, but they knew she wasn't staying, so didn't see a point in going to the the trouble of altering the theme?..Either way, it wasn't a good look/visual, whatever, and for whatever reason, they didn't bother reverting back to the prior version once she was gone..Now, this could be that she was still paid for the remaining episodes of the season, even though she didn't appear..? Meaning, she was still under contract, but they decided not to utilize her any further, but her name still had to appear in the credits? However, though, if she in fact contracted for the remainder of the season, they should have gone to the trouble of extending the theme song properly once she joined the cast.

Of course, look how Falcon Crest just started chopping their intro up in seasons 8 and especially 9, as actors left. So, Dallas wasn't the only one getting lazy, although I guess it would have been lazier for Falcon Crest to just leave all the names of the actors in the intro, such as Dallas did for season 14..no matter who was still there or not.

Season 13 DVD was certainly a disastrous season for J.R. Ewing. As the DVD back cover says "For J.R. Ewing, Season 13 is as unlucky as a steer at a Texas barbecue. He starts by lying and cheating Ewing Oil to the brink of destruction, and ends by kicking and screaming in a psychiatric hospital. In between, he tires of his pretty young wife, seethes while Cliff Barnes' political star rises, and bumps into a past he didn't know he had."
