The Bold and the Beautiful Watching The Bold and the Beautiful

After a long time, B&B was once again mentioned in TV Guide, unfortunately not positively in the Cheers & Jeers section:

"Jeers to The Bold and the Beautiful for pitting the CBS soap’s eternal rivals Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Taylor (Krista Allen) against each other again. Don’t they realize they can do much better than Ridge (Thorsten Kaye)?"

Was the end of the latest episode Brooke & Liam's magic moment, so she can't help falling in love with her savior from drinking?

Quinn dumped Carter just like that off-screen. If he wants to start a family and that's the real reason Quinn let him go, why should Katie (a woman Quinn's age) should be his new love interest?

Why is Ridge just granddad to Douglas while adding his grandmothers first name Brooke and Taylor when talking about them? Douglas has another grandfather. What does he call Deacon?

By the way, I'll be glad when the wedding charade is finally over.

If Katie deserves a man who cares only about her, she shouldn't get involved with Carter who is not over Quinn yet. Repeating the successful experiment that black hot Carter gets involved with an older white unsatisfied woman to right away is pretty cheap.

I am beyond bored with B&B right now. The writing is so bias. A Logan always has to win and be the desire of all men. Brooke has 4 (!) men fawning over her. Hope has "only" 2.

Throwing Thomas and Taylor under the bus, just to blow it up in their faces and the story goes back to square one again.

Every show on TV is more bold than B&B. This show just teases potential changes, then goes back to same old same old.

Caught the tail end of an episode where Brooke is speaking to her father Stephen. Side note. How good is it to see Patrick Duffy on the small screen. Anyways...cut to the scene where Steffy has interrupted the wedding between Taylor and Ridge. It took a whole 5 minutes for characters to dance around the issue why Ridge shouldn't marry Taylor. Many words were said except what needed to be said. Freeze frame. We'll find out in the next thrilling episode of B&B....NOT!

Good grief. Who is writing this horrid dribble. I walked into this episode with several minutes to go but can someone fill me in here if this wedding interruptus dragged on for 30 minutes? Or, will that be todays instalment.

I felt sorry for Stephen's new girlfriend. She will certainly try to prevent another visit to his daughters or even break up with him, because no sane person wants to have anything to do with this family.

It's amazing that B&B is still around, but I think there are enough people like me: they're mad at the scripts, but they just can't quit because they've been watching from day one.

It's that time of year when Soap Opera Digest picks up the best and worst of the year. Here are the results that include B&B.

Best Story: Finn is alive
Best Umbrella Story: Logan vs Forrester
Best Villain: Sheila
Best Use Of Technology: Thomas using Douglas’s phone app
Most Underused Family: The Spencers
Worst Exit: Quinn
Worst Villain: Thomas
Worst Betrothal: Carter & Paris
Words We Never Want To Hear Again: Alcohol - “Why did I drink?” - CPS - Pickleball

Do you agree with the choices?

I'm not a huge fan of the current Spencers, but it would be nice if Wyatt explained why Quinn (deserved Worst Exit) really disappeared. Maybe it's the same reason she left Las Vegas back then. I would love it if Karen came back and gave Thomas a hard time and even blamed Hope for allowing Thomas to treat his son badly.

For me, the best story is also the biggest story of any soap this year. When the story aired, it was actually must-see (for daytime standards), but the (often boring, strange or even non-happening) aftermath on B&B generally makes the event seem less big to me.

"Finn is alive" likely got the Best Story nod for two reasons. First (and likely the most important to those who report on soaps) is how it made B&B's ratings go through the roof. It's rare (and getting rarer every year) to see a sudden ratings jump like that. It gave the reporters the feeling that perhaps soaps still have life left in them after all. Secondarily, they managed to keep Finn's survival of the shooting a total secret from the soap press and to give viewers a genuine surprise, which took some serious efforts on the show's part. Granted, I think the entire story---its shocking twists and turns, its ability to draw in lapsed viewers---is all on Sheila. If they were to give these 'honors' in the style of an awards show, it would be Kimberlin Brown accepting this trophy, even if it's easier to refer to the story as Finn's.

Amazing news from France. From 2023, B&B will be aired there on the biggest channel TF1 with Y&R as lead-out. Y&R was a hit for TF1 in the afternoon for many years, but as ratings dropped, Y&R was pushed into the morning earlier, with fears of cancellation being raised. The interaction of B&B and Y&R is supposed to save both soaps from cancellation in France.

Here is an English translation of the news from the French media:

Revolution for soap fans. After 32 years of good and loyal service, "Amour, gloire et beauté" leaves France 2 and lands... on TF1. From Monday January 2, 2023, it is TF1 that will air the continuation of the adventures of Forrester, Logan, Spencer & co. "The Bold and the Beautiful" had been broadcast in France since 1989.

From now on the series will be scheduled every day of the week - Monday to Friday - at 10:20 a.m. on TF1, just before its ex-rival, "Les feus de l'amour". TF1 will continue broadcasting the soap opera where France 2 will have left it, that is to say at the 8,688th episode.

What I don't like at all about B&B: men are never weak and women seem strong, but eventually they get weak and become addicted (Brooke, Taylor, Steffy, Katie). So far no man has been addicted or mentally ill. I hope that changes with Bill, either he's bipolar or an alcoholic, which he's actually been for years, but men can drink as much as they want without harm, so for now he's a ordinary man in the B&B universe without weaknesses. I'm curious if his current manner will be the start of a real problem or if it's just the beginning of the next vendetta of the mentally strong Bill.

There might be fans of Brooke and Taylor's moment of truth when it comes to Ridge, but I didn't like it. Taylor is used to being alone, but what about Brooke? Either she'll throw herself at Bill, or even Liam. She'll get back to Ridge sooner or later anyway.

The latest episode was awful even though Sheila was in it. Not even her evil laugh could console me for the bad scenes in Steffy's office and at Brooke's. At least RJ was mentioned, maybe for the first time in 2022.

In defense of B&B: It was very good between the day Sheila was shooting Steffy and Finn & Steffy's reunion in Monte Carlo. In fact, it was so good that afterward I tried to tolerate some strange plots (Deacon risks his freedom and relationship with Hope just to have an affair with Sheila), but Ridge's reaction to the CPS call was my breaking point. After that, I couldn't ignore how plot-driven B&B has become again. Does it make sense that Ridge doesn't confront Brooke about the call? Does it make sense that Taylor isn't wondering why Ridge broke up and she's obviously just the consolation prize? And then the big "I choose me" moment! Does it make sense that Steffy suddenly think it's great that Taylor is choosing herself over Ridge? And now Bill, who doesn't care that Sheila almost killed his grandchild's mother.

I was a bit worried when I read that Kimberlin Brown got a two-year contract. I would have preferred Sheila to have disappeared for a few months after her fake death (or show up in Genoa City for the 50th Y&R anniversary), but writers never find the perfect (or at least still good enough) moment to write Sheila out on both shows. Even as a fan at some point I feel like I need a break from Sheila.

By the way, Bradley Bell recently spoke about Katrina Bowden and Denise Richards: "Well, in my mind, Shauna and Flo are 'out there'. I think the world of both actresses and I'd love to plug them in. At any moment if they're available, I'd be honored to have both of those characters and actresses back." He said of Darin Brooks: “With this Bill and Sheila pairing, it's really going to bring life back to the Spencer family, Wyatt included. They're not really going to be in favor of their dad seeing the witch Sheila Carter."

What I find interesting about this show is it just never seems to evolve anymore. For example, I’m currently rewatching episodes from 1993 and the similarities to what is going on now are very striking. Taylor and Brooke fighting over Ridge, Sheila doing her thing and wreaking havoc, etc.

And how long am I supposed to think that this Taylor and Brooke friendship will last? And now I’m supposed to believe they finally got Ridge out of their systems after 35 years??? I just can’t take this show seriously anymore. How about writing some storylines for the younger characters on the show? Steffy and Finn had their reunion and that was pretty much the last important storyline they shared.

It’s time for B&B to move the older characters to the background. The show needs to evolve. It’s time to move on. Brooke, Taylor and Ridge all have shelf lives and those shelf lives have long expired. It’s time to make these characters secondary. What can possibly be done with them that we haven’t seen? Make them the sounding boards, the advice givers, the “coffee mug holders,” etc, but don’t give them the main storylines anymore. It’s just too repetitive now.

I used to like the older generation of B&B. Stephanie, Eric, Sally, Bill Sr, Massimo etc. But now that Brooke & Ridge are part of the older generation, I don't like it so much anymore.

However, Sheila & Deacon had terrific chemistry. Bill & Sheila could have been a great story if it made any kind of sense that Bill would fall for Sheila. And I love the new Taylor.

Steffy & Finn should be front & center as should Thomas. I wish I could say the same about Hope & Liam, but they're just much too boring.

If a younger generation would be brought in, 20-something year olds, they'd better bring in Forresters. It's incomprehensible that there are so few Forresters left on the show. Who even cares about Forrester Creations when there are so few Forresters left to battle it out?
