Ha-ha, when I circle bac and read some of my posts I'm left thinking... Jesus, WTF kind of seriously malevolent demon's hand was at work. A demon I say, because I'm not one stray off topic and all that jazz.

That said, I re-read one post a while back and almost wet myself laughing. I weaved up some magic that I was half expecting to get pulled.

Quite honestly when I go back and read some of mine I’m left to wonder what the heck was I thinking???

A demon I say, because I'm not one stray off topic and all that jazz.
I got the impression I strayed off topic the other night on one of the daytime soap threads. But then a friend came to my rescue and proceeded to bail me out. The point in this? Always check the forum list and make sure your friends are logged in before you post and make a complete idiot of yourself LOL!!

That’s what I love about the games section. It’s so much fun and I guess we have some latitude to act like imbeciles if we want.

I quite agree, it's the section I navigate to and post on the most. I'll frequently read post on many other sections and threads but don't weigh in for various reasons (usually). That said, this section is where frivolity is the order of business, with, I've noticed, some kind words offered. The conversations on this thread are rather engaging... fells like eavesdropping sometimes although they are conducted in a public space, I guess that to certain degree posters (including me) momentarily loose sight of that fact. I'm struggling to recall how the nomenclature committee go about their business RE: naming storms et cetera, but I believe they alternate the gender names and the point of allotting them names is to capture the public's attention as to the danger approaching.

Why people would assume that a storm with a female moniker will be less destructive is a mystery to me. I guess that it's a human trait to make value judgements based on a name. For example... Gaynor Sullivan nee Hopkins who's giving that person a second thought, but Bonnie Tyler...

As a rule, I head right to the games section first. I’ll read almost every thread on the site and if I feel I can contribute something I will, but if it’s a thread I have no idea what’s going on then I’ll pass.

Mostly kind words. Except for the Last Post thread perhaps?

I love this thread most of all! I remember being very frightened to jump in at first but that went away very quickly.

Well, we have another female storm on the way in a couple of days so I’ll let you know how it goes. She’s supposed to miss us and hit the west coast of the state but you never know with these things. Personally I fear male and female storms about the same.

Summed up in a fashion that alluded me. Some topics threads I've read I really don't have thoughts to contribute whether appreciated or not. Sports, Dallas, Literature et al. On occasion some discussions have caught my attention and resistance was futile to quote the Borg.
Mostly kind words. Except for the Last Post thread perhaps?
Yes brethren, I'm all about peace and love and everlasting. But nefarious souls with regicide in their hearts, are in the throes of demonic possession, I'm talking 'bout real serious demons in control. Nary a kind word about my everything is honestly offered. That ain't right.

Me too, initially I was not too sure about jumping in, but eventually I got a "feel" for what was going on and thought "hey what's the worse that could happen... anonymity, cloaked in." If you follow my train of thought.
Expanding the point, I'm was surprised by how much the stalwarts of this thread share information about themselves. That's telling me that people contributing to this tread see it as safe place.

There are threads where I don’t even know what is being discussed to be honest. Those I politely stay away from.

If it’s a discussion I know I can contribute to or if it’s a subject that hits close to home then I can’t stay away from that thread.

Let’s see, we’re only 78 away from our goal of 5400 by August 31. It’s really a piece of cake!!
I see we failed again :giggle:

Well, only I drive it for the most part. But if the night shift runs out of trucks then someone will take mine out. We have a company that comes in once a week and washes the outside. As far as gas goes, a tanker comes to our station three nights a week and gives us fuel. We also have gas cards in our possession for emergency situations
I so like hearing details like this and finding out how things work, thank you for explaining.

I always imagined you and your colleagues queueing up at the petrol/gas station waiting to fill up your trucks, it never occurred to me that the fuel comes to you, which of course makes complete sense ..... unlike me

We’ve been lucky so far this year. Just a whole lot of rainstorms recently but I’ll take that over the hurricanes.
I hope this continues DFF. You've got me scared of the hurricanes too and I'd hate to think of you getting caught up in one.

Not sure what we would do over here without air-con to be honest. Mine broke one evening last month and luckily they were here to fix it the next morning. It felt like the longest 12 hours of my life!
Oh no, that hot night must've been awful ..
eventail.gif
its so difficult to sleep in the heat.

May I ask (here I go again ..Lol!) do you have air-con in all the different rooms or just the bedroom?

Lashes, your nosiness is ALWAYS more than welcome my friend!
Thank you my friend, you are very understanding of my need to know things which are none of my business :D

When I was a kid my grandparents would tell me about the railroad but there were very few pictures available. Only in recent years, thanks to the internet, have I been able to see the actual railroad and where it was in relation to everything.
How fab that the internet gave you the images, it must've been fascinating for you to see how the mountain used to look.

Yes, actually they were. Even til this day there are some old lines buried in the woods heading up the mountain. At one time back in the 80s you could still see the railway path as it went up the mountain. Unfortunately now it all seems to be filled in by the trees, but from the pictures I’ve seen online the railway pretty much ran right through the middle of that avatar when it was active. That’s always amazed me.
Isn't it amazing how nature claims back its land when we humans have finished with it?

I kind of like that the railway lines can't be seen on the mountain anymore and also the fact that some are still there hidden beneath trees as a sign of the past.

That visit in 2003 was very special. I can’t even explain it. I had no intention of going back there on that trip. I was visiting my family on Long Island and one day I just got in the car and started driving, and somehow a few hours later I ended up back in that avatar looking at my field and that house. And what amazed me was everything looked exactly the same no matter where I went in that town that day. That was what I never expected. I hope you’re right though; selfishly I hope it never changes either.
This made me smile. I can imagine how emotional that must've felt :)

Well, you have nothing to worry about cause so far I’ve enjoyed reading all of it! I’ve had quite a few laughs.
Lol! .. have you finished reading to the end of this thread? have you got to the part where DFF is born?

I’m glad you brought this up cause now I have a much better understanding of the Eagles and what they mean to you and Michelle; specifically Soap and Chat. That was an amazing story and I’m so glad I went back and read that now. Chat was quite the character and I challenge anyone to read that thread and not get a little emotional when Soap fell out of the nest and then their eventual reunion. This is going to sound sappy or corny but I honestly don’t care; I was truly touched by that whole thing.
Do you know ..... reading this comment by you made me feel emotional because you hit the nail on the head DFF.

Soap and Chat were so special to both @Michelle Stevens and myself, we loved them to bits :love5:you also captured how traumatic it was when Soap got knocked out of the nest. .I'll be honest and tell you that I actually cried because I thought that was the end of her ... sounds daft me saying that, but that's how much we were captivated by those two.

And yes, Chat would make us laugh with his chilled out attitude to life, oh how he liked to laze about in that nest

I'll never, ever forget those two eagles, I wish we could catch up with them and see how they're doing. Glad you got to read where it all began and why we became addicted to eagle watching :)

I was looking for it myself but couldn’t find it either. Maybe we’re both looking in the wrong place? LOL
Hang on, I'll just go and have another search ... :byebye:

ten minutes later and I'm back ......... and still I can't find Michelle's wonderful Dallas thread :hair:... we need to ask the very lovely ( @Michelle Stevens for help.

Thank you! You know, I’ve never gone back and looked at it! I don’t know why but I’m so embarrassed by that thread. I know I shouldn’t feel that way but for some reason I can’t re-read that one yet.
I completely get that and know what you mean. I find my own posts uncomfortable to read.

All I will say is that you have no need to be embarrassed at all, you introduced yourself to this Forum beautifully and attracted a lot of replies :)

No problem my friend! I like explaining how these things work. You’re always a good listener, and obviously a patient one to put up with my never ending babbling.

I always imagined you and your colleagues queueing up at the petrol/gas station waiting to fill up your trucks, it never occurred to me that the fuel comes to you, which of course makes complete sense ..... unlike me
Well, actually you’re making complete sense because years ago that’s exactly what we did. But considering what this company must spend on fuel a day they eventually realized it would save a lot of time and money to bring the fuel to us.

I’m curious Lashes, do you say petrol in the UK? I’m just wondering cause I love how this sounds compared to saying “gas.” Tomorrow I’m going to say “petrol please” at work when I bring my truck outside at the end of the day and see what they say. I’m expecting a strange look but I don’t care.

I hope this continues DFF. You've got me scared of the hurricanes too and I'd hate to think of you getting caught up in one.
Thank you! So far so good this season. I didn’t mean to get you scared though. I’m so sorry, I guess I don’t hold back when I explain these storms, do I LOL!!

May I ask (here I go again ..Lol!) do you have air-con in all the different rooms or just the bedroom?
I have it in all the rooms (thank goodness). Right now I’m in the living room and it feels so good to be home and cool after being outside all day in the heat. It’s not easy getting DFF back outside the house once he’s home from work for the day.

Thank you my friend, you are very understanding of my need to know things which are none of my business :D
You’re welcome! You may always feel free to ask away my friend. I welcome your questions.

How fab that the internet gave you the images, it must've been fascinating for you to see how the mountain used to look.
I remember finding those images and it really hit home cause where that house is in my avatar was exactly where the railroad went through and straight up that mountain. I’ve even watched YouTube videos of the railroad making its way up in the early 1900s and that was so fascinating for me. As a kid I really didn’t pay attention to that type of stuff. People would mention the railroad having gone through my front lawn at one time and it just didn’t register yet. Only later did I start to appreciate it. And all cause one night I went “What’s this?” as I clicked on the Otis Elevated Railway.

Isn't it amazing how nature claims back its land when we humans have finished with it?
It sure is! And again, these were things I never even thought about when I was younger but now often do.

I kind of like that the railway lines can't be seen on the mountain anymore and also the fact that some are still there hidden beneath trees as a sign of the past.
If I ever get back up there again, I will definitely be exploring that mountain. I love history, perhaps too much. I have a deep appreciation for it and I love hearing about it. There’s something really cool to me about those railway lines still being there as a reminder of what once was. Maybe DFF can bring a piece of the railroad back as a souvenir next time I go up there.

This made me smile. I can imagine how emotional that must've felt :)
I’m glad cause it made me smile typing it. Hard to believe I haven’t been back there in 20 years now. The time does move rapidly, doesn’t it? I remember coming home from that trip and telling my, I’m gonna use mum this time like you guys do Lashes, telling her where I went and she got very emotional that I went back to our house. It meant a lot to her cause she thought I didn’t think about it much anymore or didn’t care but I always did.

So, hopefully that puts the avatar in perspective as far as why I can’t change it now. Well, that plus my little ball field is in it too.

Lol! .. have you finished reading to the end of this thread? have you got to the part where DFF is born?
I’m in August of 2020. I still haven’t arrived yet but I think we’re getting close. Right now you and Michelle are chatting about the summer of COVID 19 (of course) and it’s a little sad. Liberty and Freedom had a rough season I noticed. That too was very sad but I have to say I got chills when either Soap or Chat returned to the nest for a visit after almost a year. I can just feel how bad you and Michelle felt about Liberty and Freedom’s misfortune but then we got Guy and Lipstick and a whole other family of eagles to watch so at least something positive came out of it.

Do you know ..... reading this comment by you made me feel emotional because you hit the nail on the head DFF.

Soap and Chat were so special to both @Michelle Stevens
Yes, I know that now. I guess I always knew but I didn’t know how special. I remember the both of you explaining the eagle chat in detail and it all sounded cool and I’ve always enjoyed following along cause I’ve always been fascinated by eagles. But now I understand the emotional attachment you both have to these amazing birds. I’m so glad I went back and read the thread now. You and Michelle explaining it all to me was one thing. Going back and witnessing it myself now was truly awesome!

how traumatic it was when Soap got knocked out of the nest. .I'll be honest and tell you that I actually cried because I thought that was the end of her ... sounds daft me saying that, but that's how much we were captivated by those two.
Not daft at all! You and Michelle obviously became so attached to them and I understand cause the more I kept reading the more worried about Soap I was getting as well and I’m not ashamed to admit that either.

And yes, Chat would make us laugh with his chilled out attitude to life, oh how he liked to laze about in that nest
I thought he would never leave. He reminded me of most teenagers I know that keep coming back every chance they get cause they have it too good at home to go out on their own. He was something else!

I'll never, ever forget those two eagles, I wish we could catch up with them and see how they're doing. Glad you got to read where it all began and why we became addicted to eagle watching :)
That’s the sad part. We lose touch with them and they go off into the world and we’re left to wonder where they are now. I’m so glad I got to read it too now cause it really put everything in perspective for me. I could always tell how much you both loved the eagles but to go back and read that gave me a whole new appreciation, for you and Michelle and for them. And I really mean that.

Hang on, I'll just go and have another search ... :byebye:

ten minutes later and I'm back ......... and still I can't find Michelle's wonderful Dallas thread :hair:... we need to ask the very lovely ( @Michelle Stevens for help.
I took another look myself and no luck here either. Perhaps we made her angry on the Last Post thread one too many times and she had the thread moved on us out of spite?

I completely get that and know what you mean. I find my own posts uncomfortable to read.
You shouldn’t. Your posts are always a pleasure to read but I understand what you’re saying cause I feel exactly the same way about mine LOL!! But you know what helps though I notice? As soon as someone “likes” it then I’m fine. Even if it’s only one person and nine other people disagree with me, that one “like” makes me know it was worth posting.

When I get zero “likes” then I get nervous Lashes.

All I will say is that you have no need to be embarrassed at all, you introduced yourself to this Forum beautifully and attracted a lot of replies :)
I appreciate you saying that! I did get a lot of replies and that made me feel good but all I can remember now is I couldn’t figure out how to quote a post and was too embarrassed to ask for help.

Well said, and I totally agree. One thing that going back and reading this entire thread has taught me was at the very beginning there were a lot of people joining in. I really liked seeing that part of it and I wish we could get back to that somehow.

@DallasFanForever yes we say petrol here, let us know how your request for it goes.

Regarding the posts about reading your own posts, I so agree. I get very embarrassed. It takes a lot of confidence for me to post anything. I put most of mine on original Dallas because I feel that's something I know so well, but as soon as I post I doubt myself. Having likes etc is a bonus, just making sense is progress for me, I've always struggled with expressive language. I know what I want to say but can't always convey that.

I enjoy a good debate as long as its respectful and I absolutely love other people's opinions even when I don't agree. Banter is enjoyable too.

And we’re glad you did!! Anyone and everyone is welcome here, especially considering you have Dallas in your username.

I’m glad you feel that way cause we do all wonder if we’re just babbling on like a bunch of idiots sometimes and no one’s reading anything we say LOL!!

@DallasFanForever yes we say petrol here, let us know how your request for it goes.
Okay, that makes sense then cause I’ve noticed petrol being used in the UK as opposed to gas, as we do here. I do love how our countries have their own different little quirks with words.

Anyway, well, I never got to make my request for petrol today as I don’t really need it til Monday so I guess I’ll try again then.

Regarding the posts about reading your own posts, I so agree. I get very embarrassed. It takes a lot of confidence for me to post anything
Please don’t feel that way. I did too at first but I’ve read so many of your posts already and you really have nothing to fear. You were Top Poster of the Month your first month here by the way and that takes courage! It took me awhile to post with any regularity after I joined so your one up on me.

I put most of mine on original Dallas because I feel that's something I know so well
And you do!! Honestly, you have been great for the Dallas threads in my opinion. It’s kind of the same old sarcastic bunch of us over there at times and we needed fresh ideas and perspective. You’ve given us that and I mean it.

but as soon as I post I doubt myself. Having likes etc is a bonus, just making sense is progress for me, I've always struggled with expressive language. I know what I want to say but can't always convey that
And these are all normal fears. I get nervous every time I hit Post Reply.

Will I get laughed at? Will they hate what I say? Will they call me nuts? Is my grammar good? Am I making any sense? Do I sound like a stark raving lunatic madman? Will they send someone to my house with a straight jacket for disagreeing with them? And wherever they send me how is the food?

All of these things go through my mind every single time I post and it probably will before I send this one as well. It’s all normal stuff, and trust me when I say you have nothing to worry about.

I enjoy a good debate as long as its respectful and I absolutely love other people's opinions even when I don't agree. Banter is enjoyable too.
I’m pretty much the same way. I’m not a fan of a thread where everyone feels the same. That’s kind of boring. I like the back and forth and hearing others opinions cause I might learn something, as long as it’s all done respectfully of course. That’s actually the most important thing to me.

Thankyou for your kind words @Biggie and @DallasFanForever means a lot. You'll probably notice I don't do multiple quotes, simply because I don't know how to, but I'll look at the "how to" thread to try and learn. I'm not great with computers, I missed them being introduced at places of work due to having my family and then returning part time meant I never really got the chance to use them. My choice of jobs never required their use until more recently and now they terrify me.

Most things I achieve on a computer are self taught or shown to me by family. I had to leave my last job because I was required to take a qualification which was online. By the time I fought for the right to do it on paper I had exhausted my enthusiasm for achieving the qualification and for doing the job. Maybe it was the push I needed as I'd been there 11 years. It was also a lot to do with feeling totally inadequate about the whole thing and that nagging self doubt. I know now I made the right decision to leave but I'll take a while to pull myself out of that deep hole I was in and I will do. I know the reality of the modern world requires us all to be technically competent.

Without it I couldn't be on here!

Look at me rambling on, I sound like a right negative being, but I'm not at all.

Hope both of you and everyone else has a great weekend too.

You’re very welcome! The “how to” thread is very helpful, as are all of us. I couldn’t figure that out either in the beginning. What I do is I simply highlight the line I want to quote and then click on reply and the quote pops up in the box. Then after responding to that one I space down a few lines so the quotes won’t get all jumbled up and then I highlight the next one, and so on and so forth until I’m done quoting and then I hit “post reply.” Give it a shot but the way you’re doing it is fine also.

I'm not great with computers, I missed them being introduced at places of work due to having my family and then returning part time meant I never really got the chance to use them. My choice of jobs never required their use until more recently and now they terrify me.
Join the club! I’m not great with them either but luckily my job has helped with that over the years. Eventually I was kind of forced to learn. I guess it’s unavoidable nowadays.

Sometimes I do long for the days of simplicity. But maybe like you say it was time for a change and it all worked out for the best? Maybe the feelings of inadequacy and self doubt were a sign it was indeed time to move on to something better. That’s just how I look at it anyway.

Without it I couldn't be on here!
Sometimes I’m still surprised I even am here considering my inferior computer skills. I am the running “computer skills” joke of my family but then sometimes I’ll amaze them with how far I’ve gone in recent years.

Look at me rambling on, I sound like a right negative being, but I'm not at all.
See? You already fit in perfectly LOL!!
Cause that’s kind of what this thread is all about.

Hope both of you and everyone else has a great weekend too.
Thank you!

When I decided to join this platform.... with the benefit of hindsight, a good decision.
Yes, I’d say it was. We’re all certainly glad you’re here. I kept waffling about joining, which I can’t even believe now. And once I sent my first post I knew I had made the right decision.

At the table or under the Lightning Tree.... once the B.S war stories have been chatted away, the friends there speak about their lives...unglamorised
Sounds very much like my place of employment.

Oh, the war stories of Biggie! Now that would have to be very entertaining I’m thinking.

Not breaking any confidences, but what I've heard would have you running for the hills and what I've said....
Well, this must be explosive cause it takes a lot to make DFF run for the hills. Hurricanes, the Last Post thread, the Dallas threads, this disastrous 2023 New York Yankee season, my sister in law, etc. I don’t hide from any of these catastrophic events so now you have me a little nervous.
