You’re always a good listener, and obviously a patient one to put up with my never ending babbling.
You don't ever babble DFF ...

Well, actually you’re making complete sense because years ago that’s exactly what we did. But considering what this company must spend on fuel a day they eventually realized it would save a lot of time and money to bring the fuel to us.
Oh I see. Its lucky your company are not based in the UK because the price of fuel is sky high here.

I’m curious Lashes, do you say petrol in the UK? I’m just wondering cause I love how this sounds compared to saying “gas.”
Yes, like @LMLDallas78 said,.. we do say petrol.

We have Petrol Stations not gas stations and I have to say I find Petrol Stations very boring to visit, I spend a lot of money there and seem to have nothing to show for it.

Tomorrow I’m going to say “petrol please” at work when I bring my truck outside at the end of the day and see what they say. I’m expecting a strange look but I don’t care.
Lol! .. this reminds me of the time when someone else on here was talking about 'base-boards' .. I'd never heard of them before because we say 'skirting boards'

Thank you! So far so good this season. I didn’t mean to get you scared though. I’m so sorry, I guess I don’t hold back when I explain these storms, do I LOL!!
I think I used the wrong word when I said 'scared' ... I really meant 'concerned' and that you've given me a real appreciation of how powerful hurricanes are.

I have it in all the rooms (thank goodness). Right now I’m in the living room and it feels so good to be home and cool after being outside all day in the heat. It’s not easy getting DFF back outside the house once he’s home from work for the day.
You could do with air-con outside in the garden over there :loon: .. meanwhile, we have patio heaters over here ..Lol!

I remember finding those images and it really hit home cause where that house is in my avatar was exactly where the railroad went through and straight up that mountain. I’ve even watched YouTube videos of the railroad making its way up in the early 1900s and that was so fascinating for me. As a kid I really didn’t pay attention to that type of stuff. People would mention the railroad having gone through my front lawn at one time and it just didn’t register yet. Only later did I start to appreciate it. And all cause one night I went “What’s this?” as I clicked on the Otis Elevated Railway.
It must've been absolutely thrilling to find all that history, information and images on the internet :)

There’s something really cool to me about those railway lines still being there as a reminder of what once was. Maybe DFF can bring a piece of the railroad back as a souvenir next time I go up there.
That would be fab if you got to have a little piece of the railroad track, its something that would be priceless and special to always keep.

Hard to believe I haven’t been back there in 20 years now. The time does move rapidly, doesn’t it?
Time moving quickly is so true. I bumped into someone yesterday who I hadn't seen since I was 13 years old .. amazingly we still recognised each other  .. we had a lovely chat about past times.

, I’m gonna use mum this time like you guys do Lashes, telling her where I went and she got very emotional that I went back to our house. It meant a lot to her cause she thought I didn’t think about it much anymore or didn’t care but I always did.
Your Mum must've been so pleased that you still thought a lot of your childhood home.

May I just ask, do you usually say Ma or Mam?

So, hopefully that puts the avatar in perspective as far as why I can’t change it now. Well, that plus my little ball field is in it too.
Your avatar is more special than anyone will ever fully appreciate  ... its also a treat to see it when I post on here.

I’m in August of 2020. I still haven’t arrived yet but I think we’re getting close. Right now you and Michelle are chatting about the summer of COVID 19 (of course) and it’s a little sad. Liberty and Freedom had a rough season I noticed. That too was very sad but I have to say I got chills when either Soap or Chat returned to the nest for a visit after almost a year. I can just feel how bad you and Michelle felt about Liberty and Freedom’s misfortune but then we got Guy and Lipstick and a whole other family of eagles to watch so at least something positive came out of it.
You've done so well to stick with the thread and keep reading.

Yes, I know that now. I guess I always knew but I didn’t know how special. I remember the both of you explaining the eagle chat in detail and it all sounded cool and I’ve always enjoyed following along cause I’ve always been fascinated by eagles. But now I understand the emotional attachment you both have to these amazing birds. I’m so glad I went back and read the thread now. You and Michelle explaining it all to me was one thing. Going back and witnessing it myself now was truly awesome!
How lovely of you to say so my friend ... I'm so glad the enthusiasm we had for the eagles came through in our writing. Even now I get the shivers when I recall Soaps accident ...Mr L couldn't understand why I was so down for a couple of days about a bird falling out of its nest and I found it hard to convey why ... maybe I should've made him read this thread at that time :D

I thought he would never leave. He reminded me of most teenagers I know that keep coming back every chance they get cause they have it too good at home to go out on their own. He was something else!
Spot on there DFF .. :gp:... that's exactly how Chat was. Soap was all for exploring, attacking the cameras and she even hunted and brought back food to the nest which lazy Chat stole off her :lmao:

That’s the sad part. We lose touch with them and they go off into the world and we’re left to wonder where they are now.
Yes that's so true I often wonder where they are. I just tell myself they are have a wonderful life.

I took another look myself and no luck here either. Perhaps we made her angry on the Last Post thread one too many times and she had the thread moved on us out of spite?
You might be onto something :Clol:

You shouldn’t. Your posts are always a pleasure to read but I understand what you’re saying cause I feel exactly the same way about mine LOL!! But you know what helps though I notice? As soon as someone “likes” it then I’m fine. Even if it’s only one person and nine other people disagree with me, that one “like” makes me know it was worth posting.
Thank you and thank goodness for those 'likes' .. its a relief when someone 'gets' what I'm trying to say.

When I get zero “likes” then I get nervous Lashes.
Ooo me too . This is the only time when I read a comment of mine back . to see if it was offensive or something..Lol

And now I’m off to the Dallas threads to cause some trouble!
I might have to go and lurk over there one day to see what you all get up to :giggle:

Having read your comments a few times...that speaks volumes about the relationships that have been forged here and the value to which they are held. That's noteworthy indeed, considering that the people involved in this thread are scattered oceans apart.
Wise words Biggie.

I always think its special that we all live in different places and can still come together and form connections and friendships on here.

Family is important et cetera...but do you want them knowing everything about your everything? I don't... That said there's plenty to be gained by sharing burdens with trusted friends...
More wise words :D

Making sense to others is subjective. It's nice to get positive feedback but post for pleasure.
Yes there is something very satisfying about posting for pleasure. I never dreamed I would ever join a forum and participate in so many different things .. but I have and I do . .and I really enjoy it :site:

I can attest to the fact that the stalwarts of this thread won't dismiss ineloquent, laboured, meandering or skewed off topic comments.

Biggie done, done 'em all.
I've done them all too  ... anything goes on here.

Hello over here, thought I would drop by.
I'm so pleased you have :D

Regarding the posts about reading your own posts, I so agree. I get very embarrassed. It takes a lot of confidence for me to post anything.
You do so well, no one would ever guess you feel this way. I think that embarrassed feeling gets less the longer you are here .. it has for me. Although I still have days when I feel less confident and dither about replying to a thread or not...Lol!

I put most of mine on original Dallas because I feel that's something I know so well, but as soon as I post I doubt myself. Having likes etc is a bonus, just making sense is progress for me, I've always struggled with expressive language. I know what I want to say but can't always convey that.
From what I've seen you write very well. I've often posted a comment and then thought 'I could've written that a lot better' , but in the end if someone 'likes' it then it kind of validates that we are doing okay.

Its also great that you're passionate about something .. i.e. DALLAS that must help. When I first joined I was here for months before I even left the one thread, I just used to post about BIG BROTHER and didn't notice the rest of the forum and other threads  ... at least you've got your eyes open @LMLDallas78 unlike me.

You'll probably notice I don't do multiple quotes, simply because I don't know how to, but I'll look at the "how to" thread to try and learn. I'm not great with computers,
It took me a while to learn how to do quote and other stuff and I'm still learning how to do things on these forums. You'll get there eventually, when you're ready. But no one minds how you reply anyway.

Most things I achieve on a computer are self taught or shown to me by family.
Me too.

Years and years ago I signed up for a computer course called "Computing For Beginners" and by the third week I was so behind everyone else in the class that I left and vowed never to have computers in my life

Hey @LMLDallas78 keep doing what you are doing....because you are doing it right.
@Biggie is right. :gotcha:

Thank you for saying that ‘Lashes! It’s much appreciated cause sometimes I read my posts back and I do wonder if I do. How’s your weekend going?

Oh I see. Its lucky your company are not based in the UK because the price of fuel is sky high here.
I’m just curious, what is the average price of fuel over there these days? Right now over here where I live I’m noticing it’s around $4 per gallon.

We have Petrol Stations not gas stations and I have to say I find Petrol Stations very boring to visit, I spend a lot of money there and seem to have nothing to show for it.
This made me laugh! Especially the part about spending a lot of money there and having nothing to show for it. I guess I never looked at it that way before. I like going to them for the snacks and drinks but I guess that’s because I’m outside all day.

Lol! .. this reminds me of the time when someone else on here was talking about 'base-boards' .. I'd never heard of them before because we say 'skirting boards'
I remember reading that. It was early in this thread in a conversation between you and Bowie Girl. Yes, we call them baseboards here and I had never heard of skirting boards until you said it. I thought you were talking about something that gets added to the bottom of a dress or something.

I never realized just how many words and phrases we say differently but I kind of like that, as I know you do too. My favorite part is using them over here and seeing the reaction I get.

I think I used the wrong word when I said 'scared' ... I really meant 'concerned' and that you've given me a real appreciation of how powerful hurricanes are.
Okay, that’s good to hear cause I thought I had frightened you terribly. I was picturing Long Lashes hiding under a table or a chair every time I mentioned a hurricane was on the way and I felt bad LOL!!

You could do with air-con outside in the garden over there :loon: .. meanwhile, we have patio heaters over here ..Lol!
Air-con outside here is my dream in life! I wish it were possible. So you have patio heaters? You know I just realized I haven’t used the word heater in almost 30 years ‘Lashes?

It must've been absolutely thrilling to find all that history, information and images on the internet :)
It was a real treat, I gotta say. I just wish I had paid more attention to it when I lived there but I guess when we’re younger we really don’t get into that kind of stuff as much.

That would be fab if you got to have a little piece of the railroad track, its something that would be priceless and special to always keep
It would definitely mean a lot to me. Almost as much as visiting there again one day would. That place has been calling to me a lot lately and I’m having a hard time ignoring it.

I do hope no psychiatrists are reading this ‘Lashes.

Time moving quickly is so true. I bumped into someone yesterday who I hadn't seen since I was 13 years old .. amazingly we still recognised each other  .. we had a lovely chat about past times.
This was so awesome to read! Thank you for sharing this. I often wonder if I would even recognize someone I grew up with if I ran into them now and vice versa. Will you be staying in touch with this person now?

Your Mum must've been so pleased that you still thought a lot of your childhood home.
She really was! I remember her crying when I told her and asking me how it still looked and all these questions, but I don’t think she ever expected me to go back there for a visit. Again, when you’re a kid growing up I think we tend to be thinking about so many other things and we take the important stuff for granted. At least I know I did. That house meant the world to her and to me it felt like just a house and once we moved I was just happy to move on. She’d say “I miss our house so much” when we first moved down here and she’d cry and I’d just roll my eyes cause I had no plans of ever going back again.

And then I went back again. It was about 9 years later. Standing there at 28 as opposed to being 19 when we left put everything in a different perspective. I finally understood why that house meant so much to her and even more importantly I now knew what it meant to me. I just went there to see it, never expecting to feel what I felt standing there. It may have been the most emotional thing I’ve ever experienced. I still don’t have words to describe it.

So of course when I got back to Florida I had one more thing to do, and that was eat crow and do the one thing I always hated the most in life; tell my mother she was right. I planned on the gloating and “I told you so” and you know, the usual stuff they like to say but I received none of that. It was actually quite different and I was so glad I told her what I had done. It meant the world to her that I had gone back and I’m so glad the way it happened now. I didn’t know it at the time but in less than five years she’d be gone. So that’s really why that visit in 2003 meant so much to me.

Are you sure I don’t babble ‘Lashes? You might be wrong on that one my friend.

May I just ask, do you usually say Ma or Mam?
I’ve always said ‘Mom’ Or Ma’. Now you guys say ‘mum’ over there, correct? Another difference in our language. I’m really amazed at all the different little quirks we have!

Your avatar is more special than anyone will ever fully appreciate  ... its also a treat to see it when I post on here.
Thank you! Your last sentence especially was so nice to read! I do often wonder what others think of it though. One person thought it was the house on The Brady Bunch.

I like how you constantly change avatars though. It’s always something to look forward to. I like seeing what you’ll do next.

You've done so well to stick with the thread and keep reading.
I’m enjoying it. Between the eagles and the plants, I’ve learned a lot. These are things I wouldn’t have appreciated very much at one time. There’s no way anyone can read about Michelle and all the plants she’s rescued and not get a little teary eyed. I read all of that and it certainly puts life in perspective. If she can take the time to type something so personal and dear to her as when one of her plants died and share that with us then the least I can do is read it.

How lovely of you to say so my friend ... I'm so glad the enthusiasm we had for the eagles came through in our writing. Even now I get the shivers when I recall Soaps accident
I can tell when someone is serious, and you and Michelle obviously took those eagles seriously, as I know you both still do. When you alerted everyone that Soap had fallen out of the nest I actually jumped reading that. It’s so hard to not get attached to those eagles. I had never watched an eagles nest until I joined this site so going back and read all of that was quite the experience for me.

Mr L couldn't understand why I was so down for a couple of days about a bird falling out of its nest and I found it hard to convey why ... maybe I should've made him read this thread at that time :D
Too funny! I guess unless you’ve actually read the thread or watched the nest yourself it’s a little hard to understand. I’ve tried explaining the eagles to a few people I know and they had no interest.

Spot on there DFF .. :gp:... that's exactly how Chat was. Soap was all for exploring, attacking the cameras and she even hunted and brought back food to the nest which lazy Chat stole off her :lmao:
Chat was hilarious! He was so happy to just stay in the nest and have everything done for him. It’s so funny how they each had their own little personalities and differences.

Yes that's so true I often wonder where they are. I just tell myself they are have a wonderful life.
I’m sure they are! Hopefully Chat is now hunting his own food and not still standing somewhere having Soap bring it to him.

Thank you and thank goodness for those 'likes' .. its a relief when someone 'gets' what I'm trying to say.
You’re welcome my friend and I always get what it is you’re trying to say.

Which is odd cause I don’t always get what I’m trying to say sometimes ‘Lashes.

Ooo me too . This is the only time when I read a comment of mine back . to see if it was offensive or something..Lol
Let’s face it, it’s easy to misconstrue words on a computer screen with no emotion behind them. That’s why I think the emojis are such a good idea at times. But I would never even consider you offending someone. That is the furthest thing from my mind whenever I read one of your posts.

I might have to go and lurk over there one day to see what you all get up to :giggle:
Lurk away ‘Lashes. You’re more than welcome over there anytime! I know you didn’t watch a whole lot of Dallas and fear you might not know what you’re talking about but most of us over there have no idea what we’re saying anyway most of the time.

I hope you’re having a great weekend my friend!!

Many thanks again @DallasFanForever and @Long Lashes for all your kind, encouraging words. I've been having a little practice with the old multiple quotes thing and reckon I'll soon be there. Mind you, my "soon" could be a very long extendable one!

Another great post DFF, no you really don't babble. It was most interesting reading about your childhood home.

I love the little references to our different use of words. When I was in Palm Springs for the reunion (Dallas) I asked someone I was sat by to make sure something didn't go in the bin, the conversation that followed was hilarious.
Later after the event, when I was now feeling the effects of my confidence inducing sprit drinks, we had a convo about the word fancy. Again another hilarious exchange of words and meanings. Me and my husband met some truly wonderful people that night, a couple I'm still in touch with.

It's been an odd weekend. I've spent most of it working. There's definitely a little autumn chill creeping in on an evening with the nights slowly drawing in.

You mean like the trash bin? Cause we do use that one here. At least I’ve heard it before but most people say “the garbage.”

I think it’s great you got to go to that reunion by the way! It sounds like it was such a special night to be a Dallas fan. Here I was saying I wish that thing was closer to me and not 3000 miles away so I can go and you flew halfway across the world for it LOL!!

Later after the event, when I was now feeling the effects of my confidence inducing sprit drinks, we had a convo about the word fancy. Again another hilarious exchange of words and meanings
I’ve totally forgotten how you use “fancy” over there. I know I’ve heard it before but now I’m going blank. Over here when we say fancy it’s usually to describe something as being elegant.

Me and my husband met some truly wonderful people that night, a couple I'm still in touch with.
To me that’s the best part of these events, meeting the other fans and getting to reminisce about these shows and what they have meant to us. Well, that and meeting the stars too, of course! That part also helps.

It's been an odd weekend. I've spent most of it working. There's definitely a little autumn chill creeping in on an evening with the nights slowly drawing in.
An autumn chill? Wow!! What does that feel like? I’m very jealous.

It’s been an odd weekend here too. After reading what @Long Lashes had to say about me in “The Person Above Me” thread, I got motivated to start writing again. My family has been bugging me to get back to writing lately and I just kept putting them off but I can’t put off ‘Lashes cause, well, I’m honestly more scared of her than them. Let’s keep this between us though cause I don’t want her taking credit for motivating me to write a sports article yesterday morning that will soon get posted on Twitter or X or whatever that thing is called now. It might go to her head and we can’t have that.

Enjoy what’s left of this weekend @LMLDallas78, and once again we’re all glad you found this thread!!

You mean like the trash bin? Cause we do use that one here. At least I’ve heard it before but most people say “the garbage.”
I think it was more to do with my west country accent, which I can only describe as farmer or pirate sounding! As soon as I said trash we were on the same page.

I’ve totally forgotten how you use “fancy” over there. I know I’ve heard it before but now I’m going blank. Over here when we say fancy it’s usually to describe something as being elegant.
We use it the same, but I reverted back to using it in an old way e.g. "if you like",(if you fancy) "would you like" (would you fancy) so I think it caused some confusion. Sounding like a farmer and being quite merry didn't help.

An autumn chill? Wow!! What does that feel like? I’m very jealous.
Starting to feel a lot cooler compared to what we have had especially first thing in the morning and as evening approaches. Need a blankie when relaxing on the sofa.

Oh, I see now. It was more the accent. That makes sense.

Yes, “trash” here is very common. I notice I tend to say “garbage” mostly. Others will say the “trash bin” or even “garbage bin.” I really don’t use those. I prefer the one word phrases as it saves time.

We use it the same, but I reverted back to using it in an old way e.g. "if you like",(if you fancy) "would you like" (would you fancy) so I think it caused some confusion. Sounding like a farmer and being quite merry didn't help.
Okay, now I remember the other way to use “fancy,” you’re right! I’ve heard that one used here as well but not too often. I kind of like that one though cause it sounds better to me than to keep saying “would you like” all the time. I’m gonna start using that one more.

This sounds really nice!

Let’s see..........................

Right now it’s almost 6:30pm here and it’s still 85 degrees. I give up.

Hey did I just achieve multiple quotes??? From the same poster I know, but that's major for me.
Looks like you did it! And I gotta say you figured it out a lot faster than I did when I got here.

I only learnt this morning that those blue blob quote things move to allow you to highlight what you want to reply to!
Bless me, I'll get there.
LOL!!! Yes, the blue blob is how you highlight it. You’re doing fine. Most of what I learned on here I honestly learned by making mistakes and hitting the wrong buttons.

One time I was struggling to learn how to quote a post. I mean, I just couldn’t do it AT ALL and was too embarrassed to ask for help so when I finally figured it out one night I accidentally quoted one of the longest posts you’ll ever see. This post went on forever and it wasn’t even a thread I was interested in. I had no idea what I was doing but that’s how I learned.

I hope everyone is having a nice Monday!!

At 8 this morning it was 55, I think that's right, or 13 in our money! It was also very grey, windy and showery, enough to make a body shiver!
Autumn is well and truly here, our bit of early summer we had is long gone.

Somewhere midway between our temps would be nice. I can't imagine having to cope with your weather.

For some reason I’m always looking for a different way to say things compared to the norm. I don’t know, I guess it keeps things interesting. I like to be challenged with new words or phrases and I like to try them out on others too.

Watch this space (and my other posts!)
I think you’re getting the hang of this!

At 8 this morning it was 55,
Wow! I’d give just about anything to see 55 right now. We don’t usually see temps that cool until mid-November.

It was also very grey, windy and showery, enough to make a body shiver!
We’re supposed to be getting a lot of rain here this week as well. We don’t get a lot of wind though. I hear there’s another hurricane making its approach to the eastern U.S. so there’s our wind. I really don’t have the energy to start tracking it yet. It gets a little old after awhile this time of year.

Autumn is well and truly here, our bit of early summer we had is long gone.
Autumn? What’s that like? Autumn for me is when I go outside and it’s overcast because the sun went behind a cloud. That’s our Autumn.

Somewhere midway between our temps would be nice. I can't imagine having to cope with your weather.
Midway would be the perfect climate! I guess I’ve kind of become used to our weather but a lot of people don’t. It’s not really the heat that is so bad as it is the humidity. If it was a drier climate it wouldn’t be so bad in the summers.

It's hard to believe you ever had any issues.
Thank you! But I sure did in the beginning. This site was like a whole new scary world to me at first, but it got a lot easier as time went on.

I'm thankful for the info and to the "how to" thread.
You’re welcome! The “how to” thread helped me out more than once as well, and of course you can always ask anyone here even on this thread. There are helpful people here as well, but you seem to be doing fine!

Me too, but I soon get fed up of words that become overused or trendy and said in the wrong context. I've always been rubbish at maths, but I'm into proper grammar and spelling and it bugs me when it's not used correctly. It shouldn't bug me, but I always loved English at school and it was something I was good at.

Autumn? What’s that like?
Leaves falling from the trees, changing colour, wind, a little colder average 55-64. Not too much rain usually, but can be very unpredictable. Low sun if we get any. I guess it's nice having the four seasons.

It’s not really the heat that is so bad as it is the humidity.
Oh right, I remember humidity when I've travelled to Thailand, but I guess that's different as it's temporary and I'm on holiday.

Yes! Some words or phrases get so overused that it does get a little tiresome.

I love math, well, easy math anyway. You can keep calculus, geometry, trigonometry and all the hard stuff but I’ve always liked using numbers. Fortunately I get a lot of practice with math with my job.

As for grammar, I’m very paranoid with it LOL!! Quite often I read back what I typed just to double check it, especially the spelling.

This is one thing I’ve kind of never liked about living here. You can go outside and not be able to tell which season it is. I’m not a fan of the cold anymore (I think I’m spoiled now) but I do like when it gets a little cooler, especially around Christmas time because it gives the season a better feel. Last Christmas Day it was actually 40 degrees here, which is very rare for us. I wasn’t crazy about it being that cold but it did help it feel more like the holidays outside for a change. For once no one was at the beach on Christmas.

Oh right, I remember humidity when I've travelled to Thailand, but I guess that's different as it's temporary and I'm on holiday.
You’ve been to Thailand? Nice! Definitely a place that’s on my list of places to visit one day, and I guess the humidity wouldn’t bother me specifically.

Luckily the humidity has lessened here a little bit. July and August seemed much worse this summer. There were times I would go outside and that steam would just instantly hit me. It takes some getting used to. Some people never do get used to it.

I agree and it's only Thursday tomorrow, (well today). I seem to feel as though I'm one day ahead.
I’ve always found time difference fascinating. Quite often when I’m posting on here I’ll think about the fact that over there it’s quite a few hours later than it is here. When I’m getting up in the morning most of you are already well into your day, and when I get home from work and log in I’ll notice it’s mostly us Americans here at that point as so many of you in the UK are already sleeping.

I’m so ashamed to type this but when I was a kid I had no concept of time difference. I’ve always lived on the East Coast of the US so I would look at California being three hours behind us and I’d say, “Oh wow, look at that, they won’t know what’s going on in the country over there for another three hours! I feel bad for them.”

Little did I know that of course they knew what was going on at the same time we did. It was all just happening at a different time for them.

What an imbecile!

Enjoy your Thursday my friend, and of course everyone else please do the same!!

I’ve always liked using numbers. Fortunately I get a lot of practice with math with my job.
I admire anyone who likes maths and is good with numbers. Mum and Dad were always so quick with numbers so I'm not sure where I get it from. I remember getting a job as a waitress many years ago and me and mum used to play "shop" so I could get the hang of giving change back and adding up the correct money!

Last Christmas Day it was actually 40 degrees here,
Wow I just can't ever imagine Christmas Day with that temperature.
Our winters do seem milder now, but can still cause havoc. We just seem ill prepared for the slightest bad weather and it causes such an impact with roads, travel and schools.

Christmas on the beach, now that I could definitely adapt to.

Thailand? Nice! Definitely a place that’s on my list of places to visit one day,
Thailand is stunning with beautiful beaches and lovely people. Such a long flight though. It was our go to place for some time until we discovered Barbados back in February. Absolutely amazing and not so far to travel.
I hope you manage to get to Thailand one day.

I’ve always found time difference fascinating.
That's a great little tale how you used to think. Shouldn't be ashamed and you're so not an imbecile, bet you never had to play shops when you were 17! Now that's something to be ashamed of! :bag:

Here's looking forward to the weekend. I'll spend Friday asleep recovering from my nightshifts then we're off to London for the weekend. We've travelled there so much lately, we're starting to feel like locals.

Happy Friday everyone and have a great weekend.

Thank you! I guess I’ve always been fascinated with numbers now that I think about it. Math was definitely my favorite subject in school, after lunch and recess of course.

I remember getting a job as a waitress many years ago and me and mum used to play "shop" so I could get the hang of giving change back and adding up the correct money!
I’d say that was pretty smart! Did acting it out help when it was time to count the change for real? I bet it did.

I have a waitress story that’s really embarrassing. One time I was walking to the table in a restaurant and I totally collided with a waitress carrying a tray of plates and glasses. I felt terrible! I mean her entire tray just went everywhere. A lot of people laughed but I felt so bad for her cause she was so embarrassed. She ran back into the kitchen to hide as I tried to apologize to her cause I honestly thought it was my fault. I even told the rest of the staff that so she didn’t get in any trouble. Looking back on it now, it was kind of funny though. At least I hope she can laugh about it now and isn’t still hiding out in that kitchen.

Our winters do seem milder now, but can still cause havoc. We just seem ill prepared for the slightest bad weather and it causes such an impact with roads, travel and schools.
This sounds like a real mess, but I’ve never understood how people can be so unprepared for the bad weather when it arrives. It’s very similar here with the hurricanes. A lot of people are never ready for it until the very last hour, and this is something we go through every year.

Christmas on the beach, now that I could definitely adapt to.
I do like to rub it in at Christmas time when I speak to my family up in the northern part of the country as they’re getting bombarded with snow. I like to remind them they’re building snowmen while we’re building sandcastles. I have to say these comments don’t go over too well.

Thailand is stunning with beautiful beaches and lovely people. Such a long flight though
And a much longer flight for me LOL!! I’ve looked at it online though and it does look beautiful!

Italy is at the top of my list and that’s being talked about with family members as a possibility for next summer. I’ve never been there and I have so much family there I’ve never even met so I’m kind of looking forward to this if it finally happens.

That's a great little tale how you used to think. Shouldn't be ashamed and you're so not an imbecile,
Thank you for saying that because sharing what was my ridiculous childhood outlook on the different time zones isn’t always easy to admit. At least I can laugh about it now.

bet you never had to play shops when you were 17! Now that's something to be ashamed of! :bag:
Nah, that’s not something you should be ashamed of at all! To me it’s called planning ahead because you were afraid to fail. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Here's looking forward to the weekend. I'll spend Friday asleep recovering from my nightshifts then we're off to London for the weekend. We've travelled there so much lately, we're starting to feel like locals.
I hope you were able to get some rest! That’s definitely what I plan on doing most of the weekend as it was a very crazy week at work.

And have a safe trip and enjoy the weekend!

Everyone else here have a great weekend as well!!

How’s your weekend going?
Very well thank you my friend, we've had another few more days away before the weather give up on us and travelled north to Scotland , it was a bit chilly but we did some glorious walks. I hope you're having a good rest this weekend.:)

I’m just curious, what is the average price of fuel over there these days? Right now over here where I live I’m noticing it’s around $4 per gallon.
The price changes and varies a lot, but recently I paid almost £6.00 for a gallon .. is that about seven dollars DFF?

This made me laugh! Especially the part about spending a lot of money there and having nothing to show for it. I guess I never looked at it that way before.
I'd much rather buy clothes or shoes than petrol

I remember reading that. It was early in this thread in a conversation between you and Bowie Girl. Yes, we call them baseboards here and I had never heard of skirting boards until you said it. I thought you were talking about something that gets added to the bottom of a dress or something.

I never realized just how many words and phrases we say differently but I kind of like that, as I know you do too. My favorite part is using them over here and seeing the reaction I get.
I'm the same as you and I so enjoy the differences in the words we use .. or even just the different spelling of common words. I find it kind of charming in a way.

Okay, that’s good to hear cause I thought I had frightened you terribly. I was picturing Long Lashes hiding under a table or a chair every time I mentioned a hurricane was on the way and I felt bad
Lol! .. no I'm fine about it. I'm just so glad to have learned more about hurricanes from you and how they affect your life. We panic over here if the wind blows over the patio furniture or the wheelie bins , so many don't have a clue what damage hurricanes can do.

Air-con outside here is my dream in life! I wish it were possible. So you have patio heaters? You know I just realized I haven’t used the word heater in almost 30 years ‘Lashes?
I guess you have no need of that word anymore

... may I ask? do you never, ever have to heat your home? .Its probably another daft question

I do hope no psychiatrists are reading this ‘Lashes.
Ooo me too, goodness knows what they would make of us

This was so awesome to read! Thank you for sharing this. I often wonder if I would even recognize someone I grew up with if I ran into them now and vice versa. Will you be staying in touch with this person now?
After we'd had a chat and caught up she told me to look her up on Facebook, so then I had to awkwardly reply that I don't do Facebook and her face was like ---> :yikey: In the end we swapped mobile numbers ..Lol!

he really was!

This was so lovely to read DFF. I can almost feel how emotional you felt seeing your old home and sharing it with your Mom :)

Its fascinating how differently we view things at different ages ... what I mean is that it was normal for you take it all for granted when you lived there, its only when we look back we can apprecaite some things. I'm not explaining what I mean very well here DFF but I had lunch yesterday with a cousin who I grew up with (our Mums are sisters) anyway, our families used to go on holiday/vacation together every summer, eight cousins together, it was just normal to us at the time .. but as I reminisced about those holidays with my cousin we were both in awe at how special and precious those holidays where. We both have priceless memories.

Are you sure I don’t babble ‘Lashes? You might be wrong on that one my friend.
Nooooooooooooooo you never babble your words are great to read :cool1

I’ve always said ‘Mom’ Or Ma’. Now you guys say ‘mum’ over there, correct? Another difference in our language. I’m really amazed at all the different little quirks we have!
Yes we do say Mum and Dad. Or is either of them misbehave then I call them Mother or Father in a jokey way

Yes @Michelle Stevens adventures with her plants are wonderful to read, I've become very fons of them. I'm still hoping she will turn her words into books one day.

When you alerted everyone that Soap had fallen out of the nest I actually jumped reading that. It’s so hard to not get attached to those eagles. I had never watched an eagles nest until I joined this site so going back and read all of that was quite the experience for me.
I'm so thrilled you read all that and got it :D

I'm trying to recall how we started watching the eagles together? from I can remember I think I told @Michelle Stevens how I used to watch a web-cam about Owls .. which then led to Lovely Michelle introducing me to the eagles.

Too funny! I guess unless you’ve actually read the thread or watched the nest yourself it’s a little hard to understand. I’ve tried explaining the eagles to a few people I know and they had no interest.
Oh I know what you mean. I tried getting one of my friends interested in the eagles and she just wasn't interested. They don't know what they are missing DFF :hide:

Let’s face it, it’s easy to misconstrue words on a computer screen with no emotion behind them. That’s why I think the emojis are such a good idea at times. But I would never even consider you offending someone. That is the furthest thing from my mind whenever I read one of your posts.
Yes you're completely right it is so easy to mis-understand what someone is saying when its in the written word and thats one of the reasons I often use emojis .. I probably over-use them sometimes, I just love emojis :loony: .

I must say though, its very decent and kind of you to say you wouldnt consider me offending anyone, especailly after I once pushed you off a cliff :lmao:

It’s been an odd weekend here too. After reading what @Long Lashes had to say about me in “The Person Above Me” thread, I got motivated to start writing again. My family has been bugging me to get back to writing lately and I just kept putting them off but I can’t put off ‘Lashes cause, well, I’m honestly more scared of her than them. Let’s keep this between us though cause I don’t want her taking credit for motivating me to write a sports article yesterday morning that will soon get posted on Twitter or X or whatever that thing is called now. It might go to her head and we can’t have that.
Oh wow! wow! wow! :hats: .. DFF youare so clever!

Its absolutely thrilling to read this, I hope you are proud of yourself? you should be :bravo1:

see, I knew you were a fantastc writer, you have an easy way of stringing words together and thats not an easy thing for many of us to do.

Bravo! :clap::clap::clap::clap::clap: to you!

Hey did I just achieve multiple quotes??? From the same poster I know, but that's major for me.
Yes you did! :D .. it took me forever to learn how to do that, well done to you.

I only learnt this morning that those blue blob quote things move to allow you to highlight what you want to reply to!
Bless me, I'll get there.
You' re well on your way @LMLDallas78 ... :10: .. and don't forget if any of us can help you anytime just shout up.

Hope you've had a wonderful weekend :)

I’d say that was pretty smart! Did acting it out help when it was time to count the change for real? I bet it did.
It certainly did help thank goodness. I'm still rubbish at numbers, but manage to get by in this tech world that does it all for you. Gone are the days when we had to add up in our heads.
Thankfully my job doesn't require me to be good at maths.

Love reading your story about the waitress, you sound very thoughtful in such situations and not wanting to hide away like the waitress. I'm sure she was fine afterwards.

but I’ve never understood how people can be so unprepared for the bad weather when it arrives.
I just thought it was us in the UK that were unprepared which I understand a bit as our weather is so unpredictable. But with weather predictions being so accurate nowadays you would think we'd be better equipped.

Nah, that’s not something you should be ashamed of at all!
Bless you for saying that. I thought I was a positive person but your words are so encouraging. I think my lack of confidence has sometimes made me appear negative. I know deep down I'm not a negative person, but I appreciate I don't always come across that way.

And a much longer flight for me LOL!!
I forget it's a much longer flight for you. I still believe where I live is at the beginning of the world LOL!
Italy is stunning, happy planning!

I hope you're fully rested and had a great weekend my friend. I had a wonderful time in London thankyou.
I'm pleased I managed to still find the time to get on the forum!

Very well thank you my friend, we've had another few more days away before the weather give up on us and travelled north to Scotland , it was a bit chilly but we did some glorious walks
I hope you had a nice trip! Walks in the cold is something I do miss at times as it can be very refreshing.

I hope you're having a good rest this weekend.:)
Yes I did, thank you! It’s already getting rather crazy at work and that’s a bit of a concern since it’s only September. I’m already running Christmas numbers on my route so I’ve been resting most of the weekend and doing absolutely nothing. Sometimes we need that though.

The price changes and varies a lot, but recently I paid almost £6.00 for a gallon .. is that about seven dollars DFF?
Really? Wow! I didn’t realize petrol was so much more expensive there. I wonder why that is?

I’ll have to remember that the next time I go to the pump and feel like yelling as I fuel my car.

I'd much rather buy clothes or shoes than petrol
And I definitely see why now. It’s much cheaper apparently.

I'm the same as you and I so enjoy the differences in the words we use .. or even just the different spelling of common words. I find it kind of charming in a way
I agree. I keep spelling “favourite “ as you do now. That one really resonates with me for some reason. Even on the favourite and least favourite threads I notice I’m spelling it that way now. My computer and phone keep telling me it’s wrong but I don’t care.

Lol! .. no I'm fine about it. I'm just so glad to have learned more about hurricanes from you and how they affect your life
Believe it or not you kind of get used to it cause there’s really no other option. Like right now there are two more headed this way. One of them is supposed to miss us completely and the other is still a mystery as to where it’s going to go but who really knows for sure? I try not to panic until it’s time to cause these storms quite often turn at the very last hour.

We panic over here if the wind blows over the patio furniture or the wheelie bins , so many don't have a clue what damage hurricanes can do.
LOL!! And I hope you never have to find out my friend. You’ve seen the damage they cause on television or online, but it’s nothing like witnessing these awesome storms in person, which unfortunately I have more times than I’d like to admit.

... may I ask? do you never, ever have to heat your home? .Its probably another daft question
Oh, you know I don’t mind your daft questions ‘Lashes! I have heat in my home, but I’ve never used it in this state. Not once. The closest I’ll get is just not running the air-con in the winter when it does get cold.

Ooo me too, goodness knows what they would make of us
They’d probably think we were all nuts. I read back some of these conversations before I post my responses sometimes and I crack up at some of the things we’re talking about that others must read and go, “Huh?”

After we'd had a chat and caught up she told me to look her up on Facebook, so then I had to awkwardly reply that I don't do Facebook and her face was like ---> :yikey: In the end we swapped mobile numbers ..Lol!
The dreaded Facebook!!! I’m with ya on that one ‘Lashes. It’s not for me either. I think it’s really nice you’re staying in touch though!

I’m afraid that if I ran into someone from my past I’d run away, cause I’m so shy, but I hope that’s not the case. Last night I was in the local mall and I saw someone I used to deliver to on my old route. She kept looking at me like she knew me from somewhere and I wanted to go over so badly and say hi but I didn’t and finally she must’ve given up cause she started walking the other away with her husband and kids. LOL!!

I don’t know why I’m like that. But if she came up to me I would’ve been fine. Okay, maybe I am nuts ‘Lashes.

This was so lovely to read DFF. I can almost feel how emotional you felt seeing your old home and sharing it with your Mom :)
Thank you for saying this! And your last sentence means as much to me as you saying you enjoyed reading it my friend.

Its fascinating how differently we view things at different ages ... what I mean is that it was normal for you take it all for granted when you lived there, its only when we look back we can apprecaite some things.
What amazes me now is how many things I appreciate at this point in my life that I had no time for back then, and so many things that were important to me then really aren’t anymore. That 19 year old back then had no clue what was important in life, he’s ashamed to say now. But luckily he grew up eventually. I guess that’s what’s important now.

We both have priceless memories
You’re explaining yourself perfectly! I totally get what you mean. We just don’t realize then how precious those memories will become later when we’re older. I bet getting to reminisce with your cousin made fur a very special lunch!

One of my favorite things about family is getting to do just that. Not lunch but I mean reminiscing. I have two cousins in particular that are like my brothers and we will do this quite often. It can be a little hard at times going back, but it can also be a lot of fun.

Nooooooooooooooo you never babble your words are great to read :cool1
I’m gonna have to take your word for that ‘Lashes.

Yes we do say Mum and Dad. Or is either of them misbehave then I call them Mother or Father in a jokey way
Time for my daft question now. Did you ever call either of them by their first name joking around? I’m guilty of this with my Mum but I’d stop when she would start getting angry. But I can never picture myself doing that with my dad. I wouldn’t even attempt it. Oh no.

Yes @Michelle Stevens adventures with her plants are wonderful to read, I've become very fons of them. I'm still hoping she will turn her words into books one day.
I’ve never seen anyone that cares more about their plants in my life. Perhaps she even cares about your plants more than you do ‘Lashes! I can definitely see her turning it all into a book one day if that’s what she wanted. There’s enough on this thread alone just for that.

I'm trying to recall how we started watching the eagles together? from I can remember I think I told @Michelle Stevens how I used to watch a web-cam about Owls .. which then led to Lovely Michelle introducing me to the eagles.
That’s exactly how it started, you are correct. I know cause I’ve recently read all of this. And I was always fascinated with eagles but I never thought watching a family of them on a nest would interest me. Obviously I was wrong.

Oh I know what you mean. I tried getting one of my friends interested in the eagles and she just wasn't interested. They don't know what they are missing DFF :hide:
I agree, which is why I wish more people on this site would read the Eagles thread. I’ve always enjoyed the eagle chats but now having gone back and read this thread from the beginning it’s all much more special to me.

Yes you're completely right it is so easy to mis-understand what someone is saying when its in the written word and thats one of the reasons I often use emojis .. I probably over-use them sometimes, I just love emojis :loony: .
I never use the emojis and I’m really not sure why cause, well, I am an emoji addict to be honest I mean it’s really bad! I love emojis and I can’t send many texts from my phone without using one. GIF’s too. I love all of it.

I don’t think you overuse them though. I love how you constantly throw them in cause it makes me laugh. I wish more people used them as much as you do. It gives the posts, and the site, more spirit in my opinion.

I must say though, its very decent and kind of you to say you wouldnt consider me offending anyone, especailly after I once pushed you off a cliff :lmao:
Yes, no one can ever say DFF is not forgiving. I guess if I can forgive an attempt on my life I can forgive just about anything. I must like you Lashes. That’s really all I can figure.

Oh wow! wow! wow! :hats: .. DFF youare so clever!

Its absolutely thrilling to read this, I hope you are proud of yourself? you should be :bravo1:

see, I knew you were a fantastc writer, you have an easy way of stringing words together and thats not an easy thing for many of us to do.

Bravo! :clap::clap::clap::clap::clap: to you!
What a nice thing to say and I do have to give you credit Lashes. I had totally given up on ever getting back to my writing. My family, my best friend, coworkers, none of them could get me to get back to it. They all tried but I just gave them every excuse in the book.

But for some reason, what you said on that thread motivated me because that next morning I woke up and immediately wrote a baseball article. Something simple, something I know about. I showed it to a couple of people with writing experience that loved it and they’ve somehow talked me into joining X (previously Twitter) so I can post anything I write for the world to read. I’m going to do that soon, but I need a little time. It’s a little overwhelming for me to be honest. Even typing that was a little scary; downright frightening actually ‘Lashes.

So that’s the next step, but no matter what comes out of this, even if nothing comes out of it, at least I’m getting back to doing what I love to do and that’s really all that matters. I’m already working on a second article so I’m sticking with it. After I write a few articles, and I think they’re good enough, I’ll start posting my stuff.

Enjoy what little is left of this weekend my friend, and have a great week ahead!!
