@Karin Schill , Yeah. I screwed that up with Bobby and Pam.

Shot Through the Heart
Part Forty-three:
***.
"How's your pain?"
Sue Ellen looked up at the doctor and shrugged. "The headache is still there, but it's not as bad as it was yesterday."
"Do you feel well enough to go home?"
"Yes. I think I would be more comfortable there."
Dr. Franklin straightened and turned to face JR. "If I discharge her, will there be someone with her at all times to help her and keep an eye on her?"
"Absolutely," JR promised him. "I'll stay with her. And my niece and sister-in-law have also offered to help."
"Alright," Dr. Franklin sighed. "You can go home. But you come straight back to the ER if the headache gets worse or if there are any blackouts or changes in vision. Do you understand?"
"Yes, Dr. Franklin," Sue Ellen nodded. "I understand."
"I'll start your discharge paperwork," he said, turning to leave the room. "You should be out of here soon."
"JR?" Sue Ellen called his name softly once they were alone again. "Are you alright?"
JR moved away from the window and sat down on the edge of her hospital bed. They'd been awake for hours. JR had laid with her in the bed, holding her in his arms, and quietly told her all about Jock and his illness. Sue Ellen had listened and comforted him. She hadn't brought up Ray again and JR hadn't told her about Miranda.
"I'll be fine honey," he finally told her. "I love my Daddy. You know I do. But I don't feel the same way Mama and Bobby do about all this."
"What do you mean?"
"I know he's sick. But that's no excuse for what he did. Daddy always has been a hard, cruel man. Those strokes gave him an excuse to show his true colors and he took advantage of it."
"Maybe," Sue Ellen told him. "But he's still your father. You need to try to forgive him."
"It's not about forgiveness, Sue Ellen. It's about being smart enough to know that he meant to do every single thing he did. I have to protect you and John Ross and the ba.." he stopped himself just in time, not wanting to reveal to her that he knew she was pregnant, "and Ewing Oil."
Sue Ellen reached up and gently stroked his cheek. "Alright, JR."
JR smiled, captured her hand, and brought it to his mouth for a kiss. "Do you want me to have Pam bring John Ross back to the condo? Or would you rather leave him at the ranch so you can rest?"
"Have Pam bring him home. Miranda can help me with him."
JR grimaced and stood up. "Honey, about Miranda…"
"What about her?"
"She doesn't work for us anymore."
"What? What happened, JR?"
He took a deep breath and dropped his gaze to the floor. He had to tell her. There was no way to put it off anymore.

"What's wrong?"
Pam looked up and saw Bobby coming into the nursery. "What do you mean?"
"I know you, Pam," Bobby sighed, watching her dress John Ross. "You've been stewing about something all morning."
Pam smiled a small smile and shook her head. He really DID know her. "I'm worried about Lucy. I know finding out about Ray being a Ewing was a shock for her, but her reaction has been much more severe than it should be. She won't even come out of her room."
"Yeah, I was surprised how upset she was too. But she just needs some time to adjust. She'll be okay."
"I hope so," Pam finished dressing John Ross and picked him up. "I've also been thinking about the situation with JR and the nanny."
"Now, Pam, I told you JR denied anything happened and that I believe him."
"Yes," Pam sighed. "I don't think JR is lying about sleeping with her. It's just that the whole thing is so strange."
"Strange how?"
"Miranda has only been working for Sue Ellen for a very short time. As far as I know, she hasn't spent much time with JR and I'm pretty sure she's never been alone with him before last night."
"So?"
"Come on Bobby. I mean I suppose that JR is attractive to some women. But…"
"But what?"
"She hung around that condo all day, waiting for him to come home so that she could seduce him? She barely knew him. It just doesn't make sense."
"I don't know, Pam," Bobby said thoughtfully. "JR is famous, rich, and powerful. With Sue Ellen in the hospital and everyone knowing they were fighting, maybe Miranda just saw an opportunity to try to land a rich sugar daddy."
"Maybe...but…"
Whatever she was going to say was cut off by the ringing of the telephone. Bobby turned, walked out into the hallway, and answered. "Hello? No. I haven't talked to him this morning. Yeah. Okay. I'll let him know. Okay."
"Who was that?" Pam asked, coming up behind him.
"Harv Smithfield. Daddy wants to meet with me and JR at Ewing Oil this afternoon."
"What about?"
"I have no idea. But I can't say I'm looking forward to listening to anything my father has to say."

"You're an idiot!" Dusty raged. "I told you to wait! To earn Sue Ellen's trust and give JR a chance to get used to you!"
"It was the perfect time," Miranda told him. "Sue Ellen was away from home in the hospital. They'd been fighting. He'd been drinking. If he was going to cheat on her he would have done it. But he didn't."
"Do you think that means anything?" Dusty laughed bitterly. "You go back over there. Make it clear that you want him but that you won't pressure him. He'll crack."
"No," Miranda said softly. "Besides, once he tells Sue Ellen what happened, she won't ever allow me back there."
"He won't tell Sue Ellen," Dusty informed her. "He'll keep it all to himself and keep his options open."
"Mr. Farlow, I appreciate everything you did for my brother. Truly. When he met you in physical rehabilitation therapy after his car accident, he desperately needed a friend and support. I agreed to do this for you because you told me you and Sue Ellen were true loves and that JR was evil and abusive. But that's not true. The Ewings may have had problems, but they love each other. JR is kind and loving to both his wife and his son. Sue Ellen loves him. You need to stop this sick obsessing and let her go. You aren't her true love. JR Ewing is."
Dusty's eyes darkened with pure fury. "Get out," he snarled at her. "Before I climb out of this chair and throw you out."
"Fine," Miranda moved past him to the door. "But I hope you'll come to your senses and walk away from this crazy scheme while you still can. If JR finds out what you're doing, he'll destroy you."
Dusty picked a vase up from the table beside him and threw it with all his strength. Damn her. She was ruining everything!
Dusty didn't see the shadow in the corner of the hallway. He didn't see the stricken look on his father's face.
Clayton leaned against the wall and took a deep breath. Dusty was out of control.
Something had to be done. Miranda was right - JR would destroy Dusty.
JR would destroy them all.

"You sure you're comfortable on the couch? It seems like the bedroom would be better."
"I don't want to lay in bed all day," Sue Ellen insisted. "If that's what I wanted, I would have just stayed in the hospital."
JR nodded and sat down beside her. "Okay, honey."
He put his arm around her shoulders and scowled when he felt her body stiffen. She hadn't said much after he'd told her about Miranda. Tears had welled up in her eyes but she'd controlled them, refusing to cry. Before they'd had a chance to talk about it further a nurse had come in with her discharge papers. She'd been distant and silent in the car duong the trip home.
"I didn't cheat on you, Sue Ellen."
"I believe you, JR," her voice was cold and flat.
"Then why the silent treatment?"
"You said you were tempted," she grumbled.
JR chuckled lightly and shook his head. "I'm a man, Sue Ellen. Miranda is young and beautiful and she was offering to please me. Of course I was tempted."
Sue Ellen swallowed hard and turned her head away from him.
"But…" his voice was low and silky as he cupped her face in his hand and gently forced her to face him, "I didn't want her. I wanted you. She would have been nothing more than a poor substitute and I turned her down and came straight to you, honey. And that's the difference between who I have been in the past and who I am now, Sue Ellen. I know you're the only woman who can truly satisfy me. And I won't ever put another woman in your place in my bed."
Sue Ellen's eyes softened and she brought her hands up to tangle in his hair. "Still, JR? You still feel that way even knowing about Ray?"
JR dipped his head and captured her mouth in a soft, searching kiss. "Yes. And if we're going to talk about Krebbs now is as good a time as any I guess. Sue Ellen…"
JR cursed when the phone rang. He stood up, walked to the phone, snatched up the receiver, and barked out a "What?!"
Sue Ellen smiled to herself as she listened to his side of the conversation. He was clearly irritated that they had been interrupted. "Yeah. When. Hell. No. I'll be there. Hey, can Pam bring John Ross home and stay with Sue Ellen until I get back? Good. Okay."
He put the phone down and walked back to the couch. "I'm sorry, honey. I have to go to Ewing Oil. Daddy wants to see me and Bobby. Mama will be there too."
"It's alright, JR. We can finish our talk later."
"Yes," he put his arm around her and pulled her close. She rested her head on his chest and sighed contentedly.
"JR?"
"Yes?"
"I…" she stopped herself. She wanted to tell him about the baby. But she couldn't just yet. Not until the situation with Ray was handled. "I love you so much."
"I know, honey," he kissed the top of her head and tightened his arms around her. "I love you too."

"What are you doing here?"
Donna sucked in a deep breath and looked Ray in the eyes. "You haven't been taking my calls, Ray. I've been worried about you."
"I'm fine," he told her.
"May I come in?"
Ray moved to the side to allow her to come into the house. "Want some coffee?"
"No thank you. Ray, what's wrong?" She got straight to the point."
Ray moved past her and sank down into a chair at the kitchen table. "A lot has happened since the last time I saw you, Donna."
"Like what?" She asked, taking a seat beside him.
"I… Donna…"
"Just tell me, Ray."
"You may not feel the same way about me after I tell you the truth."
"Oh, Ray. I'm in love with you. That won't change."
"We'll see," he growled, taking a gulp of his coffee. We'll see."
***
Lucy flushed the toilet and stood up on shaking legs.
She was so sick. She hadn't been able to eat since she'd found out about Ray.
Her own uncle.
Incest.
God it was disgusting.
How could she ever face him again? How could she ever face anyone?
Another wave of nausea swept through her body and she sank back to her knees in front of the toilet.
She sobbed violently as she vomited.
Her life as she knew it was over.
There was no going back.

"He missed you."
Sue Ellen hugged John Ross tightly and smiled at her sister-in-law. "I missed him too."
"Have you thought about whether or not you want to hire a new nanny?"
"Yes," Sue Ellen growled. "The main requirements for employment will be that she is over seventy and weighs at least 300 pounds."
Pam burst out laughing and shook her head. "How are things going between you and JR?"
"Just fine. I think. We still haven't talked about Ray, but I believe he forgives me."
"I'm so glad to hear that. The two of you have come so far. You deserve to be happy."
Sue Ellen smiled and walked over to our John Ross on the floor with his toys. "What do you think Jock wants to see JR and Bobby about?"
"I don't know. But I'm afraid whatever it is, it isn't good."
"Me too, Pam. Me too."
"Well, we'll know soon enough. I wish Lucy would have come with me today."
"I'm honestly surprised to hear she's taking the news about Ray so badly. Out of all of us, she's always been the one who has always been able to adjust to drama and go with the flow."
"Yes," Pam agreed. "It doesn't make sense for her to be so upset."
"Maybe we should go to Southfork and get her. Take her out for a nice meal and see if we can get her to talk to us."
"No way, Sue Ellen," Pam said immediately. "You just got out of the hospital and JR would kill me for dragging his concussed and pregnant wife out the house….what?" She asked, her voice suddenly concerned. All of the color had drained from Sue Ellen's face and she looked as if she might pass out. "What's wrong."
Sue Ellen sank down into a nearby chair and shook her head slowly from side to side. "He knows?" She choked out.
"What?" Pam was totally confused. "Who knows what?"
"JR knows about the baby?"
"Oh," Pam turned her head away and silently cursed herself for her carelessness. "Sue Ellen…"
"How long has he known?"
Pam sat down and reached out to hold Sue Ellen's hand. "The doctor told him when we first got to the hospital, while you were still unconscious. Please don't be angry with him. He just wanted you to tell him when you were ready."
"No wonder," Sue Ellen said bitterly, snatching her hand away.
"No wonder what?"
"No wonder he's been so sweet and loving and forgiving. He wants this baby, Pam. Not me."
"Sue Ellen, that's just not true…"
"Don't you dare tell me what's true and what isn't. I know my husband. I know him better than anyone else. This baby is the only thing keeping him with me. And I promise you one thing, Pam. I won't go back to a miserable marriage. Never again. I'll take both my babies and leave. I swear to God I will."
