It's no wonder Pam didn't fully recover from her breakdown trance.

There's one scene that is supposed to be shocking but it comes off as funny. Especially since many families have that loud uncle who says the exact wrong thing at the wrong time.

Pam and Bobby are getting ready to re-marry. Ray is drunk and Pam walks around the corner just as Ray says, "You lecture me, Bobby. But Jenna is carrying your baby!"

Jeez, Ray! Look around the room before you say things out loud!

And the icing on the cake? J.R. calls Jenna and basically says, "Get over here! Pam and Bobby are arguing so now's your chance. Everybody's already dressed up for a wedding. Just throw on something white and get over here and you can be the bride."

Don't want to waste the money you spent on the wedding venue, right J.R.?

Yes, I remember it, Of course all weddings at Southfork were meant to be full of drama (except for Miss Ellie to Clayton which we didn't see) but Pam and Bobby's was something else.

The tension and the torture of those two women and JR just loving it, praying Bobby doesn't re marry that Barnes woman.

So Sue Ellen chose to be verbally abused by her husband who neglected her? Yes she was the married one. Wow what a loving husband she had!
She chose to be "the marbles" in a game for Cliff's enjoyment? Winner takes the marbles and Cliff opted to be the loser.
J.R. is the reason that Sue Ellen became sarcastic and cynical. If he had properly loved her from the start, I think she'd have become a very nice person. Seeing Bobby and Pam together just reinforced to her what a true loving relationship was.

Cliff's rant about Sue Ellen being a user was true, though. She only liked "winners".

Bobby once said, "Sue Ellen lives in a fantasy world where everything is perfect, she'd rather crawl into a bottle than face reality".
Bobby said that to Holly Harwood, after Mickey's tragic hospitalization. Most women, when they catch their husband like Sue Ellen did with Holly, would have a raging argument with their husband and probably end it right there, which is what Holly thought would happen. Sue Ellen went to the bottle, especially after the recent past.

She learnt to behave that way as a way of coping and learning from the best teacher.

Cliff's rant about Sue Ellen being a user was true,
Wow! And Cliff wasn't a user? So he didn't enjoy chasing after his enemy's wife? Trying to get her tipsy in the hope of spending a special afternoon together (take advantage of her) then running scared and dumping her when JR found out.

As Sue Ellen told Cliff, " The last time we met, you ran away like a simpering mole."

I know Holly said that to Bobby, she said the biggest shock was Sue Ellen turning round and leaving.

As Bobby told Holly, "that's not the kind of woman Sue Ellen is".

That wicked Harwood woman set the scene so Sue Ellen would find out. Until then JR had promised to be faithful since they re-married. She wouldn't go into a mad rage, that wasn't her. After such betrayal she sadly turned again to the bottle.

It was a right mess at the time, along with Bobby and Ray setting up Walt Driscoll.

It started out that way, but things had changed.
For both of them. Sue Ellen was willing to leave JR and his wealth for Cliff, she fell for him. Cliff claims he fell for her, but wasn't willing to give up anything for her.
Ask Afton what she thinks of Sue Ellen and Cliff.
Silly little girl Afton playing second fiddle to Sue Ellen and waiting for Cliff.

I guess poor Miss Ellie and Clayton fully deserved a wedding with no drama after dealing with Jessica. In their case all the drama happened before the wedding.
I did feel a little cheated though after seeing the bridesmaids come down the Southfork staircase, then nothing, that was it.

I didn't want any more drama for them, just wanted to see them take their vows.

Cliff's rant
Talking of Cliff, why on earth did he think having a large handkerchief in his suit pocket was a good look?

I'm sure I read this was Ken's idea and perhaps many thought it was a funny touch. I think it added to his cartoonish, bafoonish behaviour in the later seasons which grew bigger and bigger. Cliff didnt deserve or need any gimicks. If he did wear a handkerchief it wasn't ever as big in the early seasons.

Apparently it was Peter Falk's idea for the mac he wore in Columbo which he was famous for.

But Cliff and his ever growing handkerchief?
Was it really needed?
Did his character really need something like that to add a bit of humour when Ken's brilliant acting and one liners were enough?

In one of the earlier seasons, Cliff had burrowed from Pam in order to beat the Ewings in a business deal.
When Bobby confronted him, Cliff admitted that he would use anyone to best the Ewings, to which Bobby replied
...even your own sister...
Yes, Cliff could also be a user.

Speaking of Cliff, why do I crack up laughing every single time I watch the licorice scene with him and Rebecca? I know it’s not intended to be funny when Cliff starts crying and they embrace at the end but I don’t think I’ve ever watched that scene once without my sides splitting.

That's so funny you should say that. I try to feel the emotion the scene is meant to convey, but I just can't.

It's popularly known to be this huge sentimental, emotive scene between Cliff and Rebecca, but I've just never felt it.

Still a nice moment though, but has never made me cry.

Yeah which ultimately ended up in the car accident which almost killed Mickey Trotter.

So many lives destroyed because of the Ewing's.

Walt Driscoll took his own life after seeing what he'd done to Mickey.

And poor Mickey slipped back into a coma never to come out of it. :(

Probably because it was so cheesy for a grown man to act like that.

I bring up this point frequently, the Ewing's never directly killed anyone, but a lot of people have died over some of their BS.

I think it was nice for Dallas to be able to show men being emotional considering it referred to as a man's show with tough men.

Some actors are good at crying, others not so good.
Ken Kercheval was a great actor, maybe not so great at crying.

When Cliff saw baby John in the hospital after being born and fell into Pam's arms crying, it was another scene that was meant to convey emotion, but again I never felt it.

Or maybe because you know Cliff? He's just as devious as JR and it's hard to feel sorry for him. Plus, even if he was the father, he impregnated the woman of his arch enemy.

The TNT revival - I don't think it was as bad as some reviews indicate, but I think characters were too often... out of character.
Cliff was the most notable. He was written poorly, Ken Kerscheval deserved better.
Wasted opportunities were abundant. Katherine could have returned, Michelle Stevens could have returned,
James Beaumont maybe recast, a son/daughter of Jack Ewing, an offspring of Jock and Amanda...
The return lacked creativity

Agree with everything except Jock and Amanda having an offspring. Let's not turn Jock into a Rolling Stone. Lol

Yes whatever did they do to Cliff? He was unrecognisable. Of course original Cliff had many faults but at least he was still humanish.

Too much screen time for all the youngsters trying to appeal to a new younger audience, but it needed to reach the original audience first.

I watched it as a new drama that happened to have 3 of my favourites in it from original Dallas. I quite enjoyed it, but possibly out of excitement and loyalty.

I wouldn’t have wanted the return of Katherine, Michelle or James, I just wanted decent characters and stories with that early Dallas vibe.

Instead they gave us OTT drug plots and all sorts of other weird goings on that they must have thought made it modern.

If we're honest it was never going to work without Larry. Too many fans believed he was Dallas. I just wish that while we did have Larry a new Dallas would've been everything we'd want it to be.

Very sadly it was not.
