"Brotherly Love" directed by Linda Gray. Moments after her director credit comes up, there she is giving instructions from the edge of the pool! And later, a closeup for Kelly, who we can now see does resemble her mother quite a bit.

The Mandy stuff at the end of season ten was just stupid. I hated how Sue Ellen got all insecure after seeing her be so confident earlier in the season. There was no reason to bring Mandy back. Sue Ellen was jealous, yelled at JR a couple of times, fired the woman, and then was never mentioned again.
YES! I was pissed they peed on Sue Ellen by making her into a high school girl with the Mandy thing... She served no purpose.

A major point of Steve Forrest as Jock that I could not support was the way he returned.
If Jock Ewing returned, he would not have been secretive.
He would have declared he is backed, kicked out Clayton, and reclaimed Ewing Oil.
I wish Steve Forrest was Jock.
The show was never the same IMHO without Jock

I totally agree that the Jock we knew would’ve handled things much differently but I did like how they wrote it with him being all mysterious at first and not just blurting out who he was supposed to be. I thought it added to the story.

I wondered sometimes that if Jock was serving in WW2, who was running the oil business?
Was it Digger?

Is there a possibility that Digger was sober and successful during that period, and when Jock returned,
Digger really was cheated?

This maybe could have been explored. I always thought it was a mistake to write out Digger,
since he was at the beginning of the feud

Agree. I always thought they wrote out Digger too soon. There could’ve been more from the character but I do enjoy his deathbed scene. He finally did the right thing by putting his animosity aside to exonerate Jock. Of course whether or not they should’ve had him end up not being Pam’s daddy is another story and still hotly contested.

Was it bad writing or were the writers just out of touch? In the episode "Old Acquaintance", when Pam went to Jenna's house to get Bobby, after it was all over, Bobby says "I made up my mind before you came" in choosing Pam or Jenna. Should a married man have to "make up his mind" between his wife and his ex?

No.

But the Ewing men usually had a hard time "choosing" their wives.

Old Acquaintance is one of the few times in those early episodes that I really didn’t care for the way Bobby treated Pam, especially the way he gets too cozy with Jenna. I get their history but Bobby’s not acting like much of a husband in that episode.

Exactly. Could you imagine how Bobby would have acted if Pam was spending that kind of time with her ex?

Losing Jim Davis was truly unfortunate.
Jock was the most effective representation of Texas tradition, legend and the Old West.
Dallas worked in part because of the contrast between the Old west and the modern day.
This dynamic was never present again in Dallas, or at least it was weakened greatly.

I always felt they did a good job of keeping him relevant though. I know it was never the same without him but without Jock’s death there would be no battle for Ewing Oil. That entire season and everything that happens is because of him and the will he made.

The death of Jim Davis was the ONE case departure that Dallas got right. They bumbled the exits of BBG, Duffy, and Principal so badly the show never recovered. At least Davis got a respectable send-off, the fans saw the family mourn him, and his death resulted in the greatest storyline in Dallas history.

Dallas was almost entirely two different shows from the early seasons to the later seasons. The writing was just so much better during the early seasons. Another example would be the difference between the "who shot JR" storyline and when he got shot by Sue Ellen. It's night and day.
