The wind

It’s really picking up here as we brace for a tropical storm but I have to say the wind does feel pretty good. It’s definitely making it feel a little cooler.

I met a celebrity today! The long story I just posted in the daytime soaps thread for another world so I won’t repeat it here. I met an actress who was on three different soaps and also I learned after the fact she also played tony maneros younger sister in Saturday night fever! The three soaps were another world, search for tomorrow and loving. Her name is Lisa peluso.

Glad you had that happen for you! I've never been so lucky.

What’s making me happy right now is that I’m inside and out of the rain. Of course that’s expected considering we’re bracing for a category 5 hurricane at the moment. Hopefully in a few days I can post here that I’m happy it missed us completely at the last minute.

I hope you came through the storms ok!

Thank you! We got very lucky in my part of the state but unfortunately other parts of the state weren’t so lucky. It was bad for a lot of people but it could’ve been a lot worse than it was.

The same with us and Hurricane Helene-- me and my family were pretty lucky where we live in South Carolina, but North Carolina and parts of Tennessee got just plain manhandled (Asheville especially and the areas around, with all the flooding and all).

I’m glad you made it through okay! Let’s hope these were our final scares for this season. When I see some of these areas and all the damage they are currently dealing with it makes me realize how thankful we need to be.

Indeed-- I am that Milton was limited to South Florida, and then went out to pasture in the Atlantic, instead of being another Helene.

My old bike, which was bought second-hand to begin with. As a matter of fact, I've never owned a new bike, it was always my brother's bike or one that previously belonged to an older cousin. Isn't that a very Dickensian background story?

My old bike, hundreds of flat tyres repaired by other people (because I can't do it), and that's just the tyres. Currently I'm thinking about replacing the worn out snelbinders (couldn't find an English word for it).
My old bike's predecessor was stolen once and I thought that would be the beginning of a new and glamorous chapter: the new bike.
But no, of all the cases the police had to solve, they retrieved the old crappy bike. I thanked them with tears in my eyes.

But anyway, that's all in the past now, and I like the old bike of today. It's sort of like having a relationship with a horse, it just gets better and better.
It wasn't always great in the very beginning, I remember it came with a very uncomfortable saddle but after a lot of complaining (think 200 episodes daytime soap style) I got a new saddle. And combined with the various tyres there are actually several parts of my old bike that are genuinely new. Kinda like a Frankenstein project.

I see these millennial kids on their €1000,- E-bikes, that is to say I usually see the back of them because they're much faster than me.
But I don't mind putting some knee grease into it, old-fashioned exercise is good for the health and spirit (I hope that doesn't sound too hitlerjugend-ish).
I won't be riding my bike tomorrow, unless something unexpecting happens. I wonder what that could be. Or who, and why.
