Back somewhere in the middle of the 00s, I realised how easy it was to have everything on digital. I had moved from vinyl to CD and then finally onto iTunes.
It's really nice that you can now collect those favourite albums in a format that's authentic to the era. I've replaced albums I used to have on vinyl or cassette with CDs and it's never quite the same.
I certainly wouldn't have predicted that vinyl would make a comeback in the way it has. And now artists are even releasing
cassettes. Actual tapes like Tracy Barlow used to play in her room. Changing music formats would make an interesting social history study, I think.
I was never really that into music as a kid and certainly up until secondary school was (mostly) happy to listen to my parents records, as well as having a few albums and singles on vinyl. But the few albums I had up to around 1983 were all on vinyl. After that it was mostly cassettes, but I still bought a lot of singles on vinyl.
I still boggle a little at buying two different formats for several years. But then if I'm still around in thirty years time I'll possibly look back at 2021 and boggle at the fact that I bought CDs but converted them straight to a digital format and put the CD on the shelf more or less unplayed.
