We visited a Cenotaph in a nearby town this morning, it was very moving..

Well blow me down! You'll never guess where I found Coffee Ice-cream? ... only in TESCOS where I go every week ...
I do that all the time. I’ll find something in my local supermarket that I never knew they had there. I’m so glad you found it!

I now have a tub of this in our freezer,
A tub? Oh my goodness Lashes! An admitted coffee junkie with a tub of coffee ice cream? This can’t end well.

DFF whatever you do, don't tell anyone else in my house that I have some
vil2_chut.gif

.. its for me and me alone ;)
I do hope it’s a big freezer with lots of room to hide stuff. My mom would quite often push the ice cream to the back of the freezer and put all the frozen meat in front of it to keep DFF from finding it when he visited but he usually did.

Did you get used to the harsh weather
I did. And I loved it growing up. But being away from it so long made me realize how harsh it really was.

did your cars have snow tyres on?
Yes, snow tires were a must up there. Otherwise you’d be jet skiing down the mountain on your way to work. But even with the snow tires, driving in it was very tough as I’m sure you can understand.

I remember one time when I was 16 and driving home from school and it was pouring snow. I came up to this sharp turn and completely lost control of the car and skidded all the way across the highway. And I’m watching the river getting closer and closer and I just closed my eyes as I hit the guardrail and bounced off and got sent back into the middle of the road. Luckily no other cars were around at that point. That guardrail probably saved my life as without it I would’ve gone right into the river.

When we get freezing weather for any length of time the country goes into chaos because we're never prepared for it
This surprises me. I would think just watching the weather channel and the local news would be enough to get people ready. Then again it’s the same thing here with hurricane season. Most people don’t prepare and only start getting ready at the last minute and it’s pure chaos.

Hope you've had a good week my friend?
It was very chaotic to say the least. It’s getting so busy at work already. Luckily they hired a ton of help already cause I have a feeling we’re gonna need it.

I hope all is well with you and that ur having a nice weekend!!

not long until Thanksgiving now, will you get some days off work?
We close Thanksgiving day but then Friday it’s back to the grind. I’m working six day weeks but Sundays I’m always off. But after thanksgiving I think my next day off will be Christmas Day.

I hope no one minds me posting this. Its Remembrance today today here in the UK
Of course no one minds! I think it’s important that we remember all of the troops that sacrificed for us. I didn’t realize that Remembrance Day in the UK is so close to our Veterans Day of November 11. We used to call it Armistice Day also, which I actually liked better but I notice I don’t hear that much anymore. I think Veterans Day was probably easier for people to understand.

It puts things in perspective. It can definitely make you realize what’s important (and what’s not).

We’re at 4568 now. I’m having trouble remembering Lashes, did we ever put a new goal out there? I do recall suggesting 4625 by December 1 but I’m not sure if we made it official.

I'm so looking forward to over- indulging, I'll do it when I'm home alone :D . Can't believe I've resisted it so far, although every time I go into the freezer I have a peek and make sure its still there.

I use the same tactic as your dear Mum did. The Coffee Ice-cream is right at the bottom of the freezer where no one ever goes apart from me ;)

Life is on the up because I've had another break through and finally found my favourite Square Crisps,. TESCO's only had the big 14 multi-pack so I had to get them, yummy! . Apparently we've had a bit of a 'crisp-crisis' in the UK due to not having enough drivers.

I can imagine how tough that must've been. I love driving but once the snow and ice arrive it stresses me out.

Blimey! :yikey: that sounds truly terrifying, its no wonder you remember that incident, how scary. I'm so glad you didn't end up in the river my friend.

Nothing that severe has happened to me, but about 10 years a driver behind me was travelling too close and I knew he wouldn't be able to stop in time if I applied my brakes, eventually we came to the end of the icy road and I gently and slowly applied my breaks to warn him I was stopping at the junction ahead and then BANG! he ran into the back of my car :a2: luckily he accepted it was his fault and said he didn't realise the road was so slippy. Since then I've been nervous of drivers behind me in icy conditions.

You'd think so, but we once had windy weather and all the trains came to a stand still because of ...

leaves on the tracks :lmao:

Is this because of Christmas orders do you think?

I hope all is well with you and that ur having a nice weekend!!
We are all good thank you. The weekend was good too, dry weather for a change so we managed to get outside for a change , well wrapped up though as its chilly.

It is a very special day, I also think it brings communities together as we plan special events and gather together. My Grandad fought in WW2 and was badly gassed, he also had a bullet which just missed the main part of his head, but it left a small scar. Its sad that we still have wars even now.

I have no idea either

Shall we go for 4625 by December like you say? this sounds fine to me.

It’s not easy resisting when you know something good is waiting in that freezer, is it? I do struggle with this as well.

every time I go into the freezer I have a peek and make sure its still there
I do this also. I’ll quite often save something for the weekend when I think it’s time to splurge a little. But all week long I’ll keep looking in the fridge and tempt myself. And I have to make sure it’s still there also, which is strange cause I live alone. I’m not quite sure who would take it.

The Coffee Ice-cream is right at the bottom of the freezer where no one ever goes apart from me ;)
That’s a good idea. Trust me, once you start eating that stuff ur not going to be able to stop.

It amazes me every time you say that because here we have way too many drivers. I can’t turn around without tripping over one anymore.

I honestly don’t miss it. I get calls from my family all winter telling me they’ve had it, they want to move, they’re all done, etc. So I try not to remind them that it’s 80 degrees and sunny here for obvious reasons.

I'm so glad you didn't end up in the river my friend.
Thank you!! I’m kind of happy about it myself.

a driver behind me was travelling too close and I knew he wouldn't be able to stop in time if I applied my brakes
That’s pretty scary as well. You would think people would have the common sense in that kind of weather not to follow so closely. At least he admitted it was his fault and thankfully you weren’t hurt.

Of course! It stays with you. Every time I see snow, even if it’s only on the weather channel, I think of my accident. And for you it’s scarier cause you still have to drive in it sometimes. I ran the heck out of there.

we once had windy weather and all the trains came to a stand still because of ...

I’m not often speechless but this certainly did it I have to say

Is this because of Christmas orders do you think?
From what I understand everyone is shipping early because the websites are saying if you don’t get ur orders in by December 8 then they won’t guarantee ur stuff will get there by Christmas. So I think everyone is panicking. This has been the busiest November I’ve ever seen in 23 years with the company.

No, actually I’m exhausted by Tuesday. But seriously, yes, I usually spend Sunday resting all day. I’m gonna keep going as long as I can, cause I do love what I do. But the day I wake up and I start feeling the aches and pains consistently, then I’ll start looking into doing something else with the company. Hopefully that’s a ways off still.

My Grandad fought in WW2 and was badly gassed, he also had a bullet which just missed the main part of his head, but it left a small scar. Its sad that we still have wars even now.
It’s senseless that we still have them. So many lives lost. Luckily ur grandad wasn’t one of them. It definitely makes you realize who the real heroes are.

Shall we go for 4625 by December like you say? this sounds fine to me.
Sure! I think we can make it. We still have a couple of weeks. And if work doesn’t kill me by December 1 then I should be alive to see it.

(Just kidding, just kidding)

DFF and Lashes, Enjoying you posting as I do here.... But if I could just say...

As silly and apocryphal as it sounds, and considered material for a comedic turn as long as I can recall. Leaves on track are a serious problem. If the track is using the third rail pick up, the leaves can get caught up between the live rail and the locomotive's contact causing the locomotive to loose power. Snow can potentially do the same.

Wet leaves also decrease friction between the train's wheels and the rail, degrading the braking efficacy of the train. Suspending train services are not a decision taken lightly. It has a huge knock on effect. The Pantograph system being rolled will help but not eradicate problems caused by leaves and snow on tracks.

You would have a shock if it had disappeared  ..... I know what you mean though, about saving something special for the weekend, its good to have something to look forward to.

Our big supermarket down here is Publix but I don’t recall ever seeing them there.
I've never heard of this before, so I had a nosy on Google ..

Wouldn't it be interesting if we could swap supermarkets for a day, (you could go to Tesco and me to Publix) so we could see how each store differs? ... or maybe I'm just sad :giggle:

t amazes me every time you say that because here we have way too many drivers. I can’t turn around without tripping over one anymore.
I'm even seeing signs in the actual stores now saying - Drivers Needed - this never used to happen, they didn't use to advertise in this way.

Its good to hear how you love your job, I think when we enjoy something it makes it far easier to do. You will know when the time is right and you've had enough and need a change :)

Leaves on track are a serious problem.
You know, I never realized this before Biggie. I knew snow posed a serious problem as I’ve seen trains struggle in the snow but leaves was something I never would’ve guessed.

 ..... I know what you mean though, about saving something special for the weekend, its good to have something to look forward to.
I keep myself on a pretty strict diet all week but on the weekend all bets are off. I’ve been eating junk since I got home from work Saturday afternoon up until Sunday night but I think it’s good to do that. It balances things out. Tomorrow it’s back to the grind. I can’t be strict with myself for 7 days straight.

Wouldn't it be interesting if we could swap supermarkets for a day, (you could go to Tesco and me to Publix) so we could see how each store differs? ... or maybe I'm just sad :giggle:
I like the idea, as I’m sure we don’t have Tesco over here. Besides Publix we also have Whole Foods, which is very expensive but I do like it for a lot of things. It’s more of a store for organic foods, which I’m not a big fan of, but they do have some amazing stuff as well. Do you have this over there?

That’s really something! This must really be affecting every day life I’m assuming. I just can’t picture a world without drivers. But obviously I’m a little biased.

I wonder if this means you will be extra quiet as we get nearer to Christmas because by then most people will have finished shopping?
It is my dream Lashes but experience tells me that most people aren’t going to be deterred by the December 8th deadline. It will stay steady throughout I’m guessing. DFF always ends up in a straight jacket by the 25th.

I think when we enjoy something it makes it far easier to do
Very true! I can never be any good at something if I don’t enjoy it. I think it’s like that for most of us with most things.

Thank you Lashes!! The truth is I’m pretty lucky to have them. Not sure what I’d be doing the last 23 years if I didn’t end up there. We’ll just keep that between us though cause I don’t want them to know.

I wonder if our Eagles will get buried in snow again like they did last year?
I hope not but that picture sure looks like the proverbial calm before the storm, doesn’t it?

Let’s see, we’re at 4583 with about 9 days left. Only 42 posts away. Did that idiot DFF set the goal too high this month? Only time will tell!
