Yes, this. It seems a lot of fans absolutely adore season 7, but something has always felt a little off about it for me. It's a good season, don't get me wrong, but this would be the end of the "classic period" for me. It did seem like more of a soap opera, and I can't stand Pedur. It's not a bad story-line on paper, actually a pretty good one(especially once JR finds out) but I just feel like Atkins was not the right actor for the part. I don't like this version of Jenna, and I never warmed to Mark. So.. we have just about a full season of the two of them, and blah. It did feel like more of a soap, but I guess it really always was? Just not almost daytime soap worthy. We could consider the 1983-1984 season the first to be purely glamorous, with redundant dialogues more similar to a daytime soap opera.
Cliff begins to be represented as a clown (two dialogues with Pam however let us glimpse his dark side); Bobby as the adult version of the little Christopher, a puppet that makes faces; Katherine absolutely evil, comparable only to Jessica.
It's still a better season than 8.
I think season 10 was somewhat of a return to the classic feel, but it still remained, or was even more so- over the top, too.
